View Full Version : Forced to clean my closet!
Last night, DH and I heard a loud boom and discovered that the wire racks in my closet had detached from the walls spilling their contents everywhere. Five feet of clothes that were hanging up now in wrinkled heaps waiting for me to deal with them. All of the items on the top shelf scattered across the room including a shoe box of pencils and pen nibs (what was that doing up there?). Anyway, I might as well see it as the obvious message that its time to purge some clothes. No more excuses...I will start tonight since he has already reinstalled them making sure they are securely attached to studs this time.
lol Well, that's one way to declutter ;)

So your not going to wait for it to break a stud the next time?:laff:
A message from the universe ...
I hope it wasn't in the middle of the night while you were sleeping - that would have scared the crap out of me!
In the middle of the night, we heard a HUGE crash and then just a thud on the other side of the house. My dad investigated and could not find the source. We checked the house and nothing was found. 2 days later, my mom goes to open a storage closet, that she had secretly hung an extra pole in. It was stuffed to the gills and had collapsed in a huge heap, blowing out the side wall drywall and creating a huge hole. My dad never knew about it and myself and my mom figured out how to cut dry wall, tape, spackle, sand and paint it. Hence my simple living ways. :)
I hope to never have another exploding closet. Funny about your mom, TxZen. It's all back in now minus one very large bag. If I got rid of what I don't wear, I'd probably not have many clothes at all so there is more work to do later. I did come to the realization though that trips to the thrift store need to stop. It had become a fun pastime but seeing all these things in a pile helped cement my wish to retire and not buy clothes. I don't need many at all once I no longer have to dress for work.

These are too funny. I did have one clothes rack fall down in the past year--we jerry rigged a clothes closet when we moved into this house. I have yet to have a closet explode yet, but I agree, I need to prune my clothes. I just bought a new round this past week because I have to go to a conference for work and literally had nothing to wear that was decent--10 years of working at home will do that to you. I am currently working in my favorite Starbucks t-shirt, purchased at the mother store in Seattle, a pair of blue jeans, and crocs that the dog pulled the strap off of. I cannot see going to the conference dressed this way. Yet all my work clothes are 5-10 years old and most were purchased at Thrift stores anyway, so I probably should just wear what I have and be retro.
LOL rodeo...........that seems to be the only kind of thing that gets me motivated too! You'll be so glad it happened, when it's done.
Onward! :)

pinkytoe, That happens all the time in my closet. It happens regularly with my shower curtain, too. (it comes crashing down...usually when I'm right in the middle of taking a bath by candlelight.) I need to clean my closet out, as well. Now that I have a boyfriend, I want to clear out more space in the cupboards, fridge, too. (My 1940's cottage only has one very small closet....)
rodeosweetheart, I feel that way, too. I haven't bought clothes in ages. Yesterday a nicely dressed woman complimented me on my audition dress. I got it at the Salvation Army for $5.00 a few years ago. It works. It's easy to launder, dries quickly, and fits like a glove...
