It is almost the time for Burns' Night.

This year we're hosting the event at home.

MENU
lentil soup
Haggis with mashed tatties and chappit neeps and a wee dram
Tipsy Laird or Edinburgh Fog
scottish cheeses with homemade oatcakes

Copious amounts of single malt!

I will give the Selkirk Grace. My son in law will make The Address to the Haggis. Daughter will make the Ladies' reply.

I've got a mock-haggis* log in our freezer left over from last year's Burns Dinner. This year I am too busy to put one together, but next year--we will celebrate.

Last year we had our World food group over and they made:

Neeps' and tatties
Cock o' leekie soup

and other things I do not remember

Do you recite the Ode to the Haggis?

*mock haggis: organ meats mixed with oatmeal in a sausage casing.

Ishbel, it sounds wonderful! Lentil soup--yum. Haggis with neeps and tatties--yum. Single malt--yum. We've been to place in New Jersey that does a Burns night but we haven't been in a few years because it's an hour away and I always wind up being designated driver after everyone else is a few drams in. Plus it's not as much fun now that my mother-in-law is gone. She was the life of that party.

Have a great time!

iris lilies, I've had mock haggis and it's delicious.

The Address to the Haggis is traditionally recited by a man. I usually get the supporting role on behalf of the other half of humankind!
