I was given some Devil Sticks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_sticks) and am learning (slowly) how to juggle. I also started playing guitar pretty recently, and am looking for a teacher now.

Anyone else taking up something new?

Yep, I am finally learning how to knit. Got a good video tutorial and it's much easier than someone trying to teach ME 1-1 because I don't have to worry about that person's patience limit! LOL!

I used to have a set of Devil Sticks -- loved them!

I've been studying Tae Kwon Do for a number of years, but just recently started learning how to use a bo (long wooden staff). It's definitely been the most challenging aspect of my training to date as it's quite different than anything else I've learned. I'm also working on two new series of poomsae (forms). For the most part the techniques are familiar to me, but the patterns themselves are not. I sometimes think I spend too much time practicing Tae Kwon Do, but I derive such pleasure from it that I think it's probably worth it!

It's been so long that I've done anything with them, they might as well be new--polymer clay, painting, and quilting. But I have the materials for collage and some multimedia arts as well.

Recently (within the year) learned how to play the American version of Mah-Jongg. I am totally hooked. It is very challenging. I am surprised how much I enjoy it!

I am a little over halfway done with my new hobby project for 2015: Learning to dance. I am a straight white dude (forgive the stereotyping) so this has been very challenging.

My goal is to have learned 12 steps/moves in 12 months. So far I have learned:

1. The two step (standard, forward, backward, etc.)
2. Happy feet (the heel-toe, applejacks, swivettes)
3. The running man (haha... I know, it is silly)
4. The reject (surprisingly hard)
5. The freaky-deeky (and its close relative The Thrust)
6. Struts (heel strut, toe strut, etc.)
7. The Bart Simpson (so old school)
8. The Steve Martin (even more old school)

So I have 4 more moves to learn. I also picked up a few line dances like The Electric Slide and the Bus Stop (disco!).

I am using a combination of the Dance Floor Arsenal program for men, YouTube, and some lessons with an instructor.

Here are some dance moves for you. Love this scene from Hitch...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bH0OXsmsbQ

HAhahahaha! I have seen that clip before and I watched it again because it is so funny. My intention is not to be flamboyant on a dance floor. It is just to be able to blend in! haha

Ultralite...did you ever take up the Native American Flute? That's one of my husband's favorite hobbies. 3 flutes grew into a collection of 30+.
He's a bit extreme with his hobbies. Thankfully I can only use one kayak at a time. I do have 2 but that's because one of my sons likes to kayak with me. I may sell that one when he goes off to college. If a friend wants to join me, there are plenty of places that rent them for $25 for 2 hours.

Native American flute? Do tell. Can you link me to one? haha

What sort of kayaking do you do? I have my beat up old canoe. Works great; looks like hell though. haha

Here is some flute music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19nm5_nAwQg I like the lower tones.
I kayak in lakes and rivers. Within 5 minutes of my front porch I can be in TableRock Lake or Taneycomo Lake (old White river, dam'd on both ends but still moves pretty swiftly. I've got a sit-on-top and sit-in. I even fish from my kayaks. Bass, bluegill, and trout.

Some images: flute makers can be really good or really bad https://www.google.com/search?q=native+american+flute&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=979&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAgQ_AUoA2oVChMI7MfT6u_OxgIVBzqSCh0zigBs

We recommend Butch Hall flutes for beginners.https://www.butchhallflutes.com/

I listened to some of the flute music and I like it! I was tempted to buy one. But I am really trying to curb my hobby acquiring tendencies! haha

Kayak fishing is very popular here. I am the oddball out there in an old fashioned canoe. haha

It sounds like you live in a great location! Bluegill fishing while paddling is great fun! I'll go out and jig nine or ten keepin' sized ones pretty quick and then take them home, clean them, and fry them up. :)

What got you into kayaking and kayak fishing? No offense, but it is not a popular activity for women, at least here in Columbus, OH.

I've always been the outdoors and water bug. Grew up being a daddy's girl which meant I was either in a hunting stand or on a pond bank or out riding horses with him. For my Sr spring break in high school I asked my dad to take me on a 2 week fly fishing trip. Had a great time. Loved canoeing and went on as many float trips as possible. Moved to the south part of the state and fell in love with the clear water. All creeks, streams, rivers are rock based here unlike the north part of the state where they are dirt/mud based. Have lived here 27 years now. Started kayaking 7 years ago after the first kayak rental place popped up by the lake, bought my own within 2 months. It's been my alone time sport. There are a lot of women that kayak around here...probably not so many that fish from their kayaks but I enjoy it.

Yes, I felt guilty telling you about it. I thought...oh no, another temptation for Ultralite.

Hi Kay,

Just wondering if you could tell me what video tutorial you have on knitting...I have knit some basic things long ago, but would like to try some knitting again and need some help...thanks!

Btw, are you working on a project?
