I have something to post that really stuns me as I never thought such a thing could ever happen to me.....I am speechless and floored. I am engaged! Seriously and wow. Isn't it funky but you are right! I have worked numerous shifts with my fiancé - interesting word to use, feels I don't know, nice or something! - he approached me after a shift we worked together late last summer at the Convention Center when the Ferguson thing was at it's most dramatic - and asked me what I thought of what was going on in Ferguson. I realize we have never met, IL. but when confronted with a question like that I tend to be brutally honest and I was....then we started dating and now it's lead to this. I'm just amazed. I never thought such could/would ever happen to me. And something else that floors me is that we can get legally married in ARIZONA - of all places. Truly my head is swimming but I am very happy. Thank You, thank you, thank you. All your kinds words and good wishes me a lot to me. I'm still a bit dazed and still need some time to process this as how do I explain this? This was not supposed to happen for me - so I believed anyway. As much as I complain, incredible strides have been made in this one area and I am very much grateful for this. I also believe that sometime this summer, the Supreme Court will rule that someone like me can get married in all 50 states - something that Alabama and Texas, two states that are very resistant to change in this one area, may have to accept. Oh Congrats!!!! Which one of you popped the question and how?He asked. I was having dinner with the SO and his parents and I was explaining to his mother about how I plan to shop in Morocco for crafts (a rug for example) at a government run co-operative with fixed prices where the artisans (i.e, the women making the rugs/carpets on the looms, the men hammering designs in copper and brass) receive more money for their work than if they sold their goods to people who resold in the souks. In other words, it's a fairer trade situation with the artisans getting more money for their labor which to me seems only fair. I went on to explain to his mother that I believe every time we spend a dollar we are casting a vote for how we'd like the world to be (ok, with some exceptions, I get that).

So his mother takes him aside in the kitchen and tells him not to let me get away - I'm so flattered she said this. He said he was planning to ask me soon but why he asked now was how decent and caring I am - evidenced by my stance on fair trade crafts here I guess. It was not a big production or the most romantic of proposals and I didn't even have to think, I just said a heartfelt yes. We went down to Algodones for rings - I now wear a silver ring with a chunk of polished malachite in the middle. Affordable, practical, and I love silver and I love malachite. I bought him a similar ring but with tiger's eye instead, which is his favorite semi-precious stone.

My SO's mother referred to me as "what's her name" 'til the day she died. I guess I didn't make much of an impression. (My parents adored him.) It sounds like you're a hit with his family--not an insignificant thing!
