not sure where this one belongs, but it is reminding me of when i lived in a small town in california and i homeschooled so i met a lot of people i would not have met in any other circumstance. quite a culture shock coming from boulder! people knew a bit about me, that i was vegetarian and there was a time i declined to edit our newsletter because of something i disagreed with (i offered to just let someone else do it one month but they retracted the article instead). so i was the person that they came to with certain questions, and i was super surprised at them in the early 2000's. one was that the group noticed a chinese restaurant had traditional buddhist and other statues, incense, bamboo plants set up in the corner and several decided that they could not longer eat there because it was not christian. they asked me about it and i explained it all, but i think they still sought out another chinese restaurant. then there was yoga classes, concern that some aspects of it were worshipping asian gods so they asked me about that. the difference between my beliefs and theirs was that intention plays an important role in buddhism, and i got the feeling it didn't matter in their belief system (not representative of all christians i know).
so in watching indiana i wonder why the businesses are not focusing more on their intention to provide good service and be an inspiring example. i know around holiday season here many businesses make openly religious statements that are positive. others have some type of way they show their affiliation such as being listed in a directory, that used to exist as i recall for christian owned businesses.
just a thought
