it is a gorgeous apartment, it has a bedroom and a 'den' with closet style doors that i will close for a second bedroom. that means i get the bedroom with a fireplace in it. the building is about 7 floors and you can't hear a sound between apartments. there is an indoor and outdoor pool plus a rec room with a treadmill. that means i can let my gym membership go (it is about $30 a month) since it has the same equipment. it is 1/2 mile from my oldest daughter so my son can ride his skateboard down there if he wants. they hang out and play board games. the kitchen is all upgraded and shiny, and there is a good amount of storage for an apartment. and the balcony is pretty big so we can have space for the couple chairs, the small grill and a table.

so i need to look at ikea so that i can replace the couch that was 15 years old and we put out at the curb. i might splurge on a coffee table that is not from goodwill. i can sign the lease and start moving in the 25th. that is about 3 weeks of overlap moving time.

i am just so happy that i can really move on with my credit as it is, recover more as i can, it really validates not having debt and living simply (although i am not telling anyone in the mid-west what rents in denver are like)

Wow wow wow! It sounds luxe, I mean, a fireplace in your bedroom! That's got to be a great feature in cold, snowy Denver.

i think that you will really enjoy this place, it will be carefree living with no yard and a POOL!

Well done!

I hope you will be happy in your new home. It sounds a million times better than your present fairly run down place!

The apartments are soundproof? Are you sure? There is bound to be someone either above you or below you or next door, that belongs to one o' them "rap-metalhead bands" and they all get together and practice there and they have an uncanny knack for doing so the evening before you are giving one o' them powerpoint presentations during the AM meeting at one of your jobs . I'll just bet. By the way, not that it is any of my business orr that I even care, but what is your rent? Trust me, I won't tell a soul. Also, how are you going to lug firewood up 7 floors? Do you have a chainsaw & a truck(3/4 ton or bigger), so you can go out and cut wood? Just curious.

my son was a guitar major at denver school of the arts and his 2 best friends were band majors who played drums!

YAY!!! So happy for you. The new place sounds great.

On the furniture, remember craigslist is your friend! Some people will even deliver. Might be worth trying to see what you can get free or cheap before spending too much money.

Congratulations!

... And I second the look at craigslist for furniture. My brother and sil just got brand new LazyBoy sofa and matching chair for FREE, hadn't even been unwrapped! The people "didn't like the color"!

i did find the perfect couch at ikea and i have enough money to invest in it. it becomes a bed in a really nifty way, and that is what i want. plus ikea is designed well for short people, a lot of the lazy boy stuff makes us feel like children playing grownup (the tallest in my family might be up to 5'5") and then i really don't need anything else, i have wonderful easy shelves that fold down flat when not in use, a table that is also from ikea and expands when you need it, and with the overlap i can fit things and then decide what else goes to goodwill

Sounds lovely. I also agree with shopping Ikea. I furnished a basement apartment, mostly with things from Ikea. The quality is surprisingly good, given the cost.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great place.

So, as someone who grew up in denver, I'm curious. Did you end up in Park Hill or another neighborhood. Personally I always loved Park Hill. Most of my high school friends lived in the western part of it (I went to East) and I always thought it was a cooler neighborhood than where I lived (just south of Congress Park.)

Yes Park Hill is lovely. I have been living in Eastern Park Hill for over 4 years. The new area that was the airport is insanely growing! Look up Stapleton as a neighborhood and you can see it. The house I have been renting is pretty cute, from the 50's and needs work. It wasn't the best one or on the best block, but I could drive down 17th or Monaco and just house-drool.

I am moving south to the Lowry area, Arapahoe and Monaco. What I love about this neighborhood (I hope I am not repeating) is that it has the traditional orthodox Jewish community. I used to drive through it every Saturday for my son's guitar lessons (he went to East for awhile as well). I loved seeing the families walking to services on Saturday so they wouldn't use a car. I think a lot of families live in my apartment complex, it is large and was built in the 80's but has been totally remodeled. There is also a Greek Orthodox church with a shiny gold dome. I love that sort of thing.

you mean Alameda and Monaco? Dad's assisted living place was at quebec and 1st. And I took swimming lessons at the JCC across from the Greek Church. That neighborhood is nice. Awesome that you're there. Hopefully you'll make many happy memories.
