some of you have been around for my long process. that is from grad school, job search, retail and subbing exhaustion, struggle to move up in my organization, a recession with foreclosure, a little teaching break down in the middle, the long story (with some good stuff of course)

you probably know i got one interview for the new supervisor job and then didn't get the 2nd interview or the job.it brought up 2 major issues, one was the value i would like to feel in my organization but don't and the other is realistically the pay. i have been working at financial sustainability since i started the grad school process and my divorce almost 10 years ago. even if child support is totally justified i wanted to know i could take care of us without it.

So they did a salary survey months ago. i have some of the highest qualifications possible (they capped it at a bachelor's degree rather than going to a masters, i don't have an issue with that). they emphasized supervisory experience and i started to supervise at 18.

i am earning as of May 1st about $2,000 less a year than the supervisor position.

there is room for increases annually in the pay range

i can support myself and my son without child support.

i can flex the middle of my days to do mediation work.

there has been only one other time i remember being able to do this without child support or help from family.

wow

You may have dodged a bullet in not getting a promotion. Two thousand dollars can't pay for the frustration; no wonder the current supervisor stepped down.

exactly, 2 of us applied at the very last minute because we were conflicted, and both decided it was important to try.

So I understand this to mean the pay for your current position was increased? That's great news!

yes my current pay increased based on the salary survey to very close to what the supervisor position pays bottom level, i am sure that may pay more now as part of the survey however i am at a point where i have enough ease financially to be fine!

Well, that's great. I just got to thinking---now that you are making REAL money around there, and can afford the finer things in life--I would suggest that you axe your lannlord if there is a penthouse apartment in your building, for you to lease. May as well. See--living above our means is the American Way. You don't want to bee un-American, do you?

Sounds as though you got a needed boost from an unexpected source and it gave you a valuable insight about yourself. Well done!

Yay! Yes, if you have enough, who cares what anyone else is getting? Good for you, Zoe Girl, long overdue!

The true benefit of simple living is actually have enough! yes there are wants and desires and emergencies, but to know that I can pay bills, provide, eat pretty decent, (maybe sneak back in those lovely fake nails as my guilty pleasure).

It does mean a lot in many ways that I was not expecting, I went to the department meeting today with a totally different focus. I am looking at how to address the things I need to improve without feeling devastated by them. Ahhhhh,,,...

First of all this is REAL money in education, not real money to anyone but fast food and retail workers :)

I was going to buy some old cars and park them in the parking lot, try to figure out how to fix them up, and finally understand what you are referring to in your posts - (grin)

Now you are on the right track. But, don't forget the trucks, too. I can just tell that my advice here has really helped you some! Very good. I might add--I read a book--not a novel--concerning a tragic incident in Denver, as horrifying as the theater shooting. Maybe more so. Some of the events described in the account took place in an area of the city near Huston Lake Park. It was 1955, but I looked up the street addresses on google maps, and the same buildings--a home and a business location, are still there & look much the same, 60 years later. The business was a fast-food restaurant. Isn't that something?

Sounds as though your main goals are possible now! Even though you didn't get the second interview, you must be excited to know that you don't have to have child support in case anything happens!
