My company has an annual day of service program, where we can spend a day volunteering at a local non-profit of our choice. We do it in groups and it's a feel-good thing that is pretty popular with employees. Today I spent the morning at the local YMCA doing outdoor cleanup, raking, etc. But we saw teachers with their classrooms full of pre-preschoolers, and there were pictures on the walls and the kids were all very curious, looking at us in our corporate T-shirts. It was like a whole different world from the work world I am used to, and not one for which I would be terribly well-suited. And I thought "Zoe Girl is like one of those teachers, this is her kind of work world." It certainly was a lively colorful place. :)

Oh yes, I hope you can see what is so fun about my job! no suits, jeans and running shoes are fine for most days, kids artwork and projects all around. yesterday the kids in my program creating sword fighting with foam tubing as our activity. When was the last time you got paid to sword fight with foam tubing?

There are many volunteer opportunities and one I love is reading partners, you take a long lunch and come read with a child once a week. You have the same child one on one and lots of support. Plus it is easier than paper mache globes, :)

I am doing this with a 5 year old and loving it, ZG. He is so lively that we do some activities and then play and really lively game for about 15 minutes to burn off some of his excess energy.
