View Full Version : It's gonna be a very wet wedding
DD's outdoor wedding happens in two days and we are in our second week of torrential rains with no end in sight. After spending thousands of dollars and hours planning, we have to come up with a last minute strategy to carry it off regardless. Don't even know if guests from out of town/state can get here in time. Looking at the last ten year averages, it should have been at least partially sunny and hot already. Just needed to vent...guess we needed a reminder that we're never really in control as much as we'd like to think we are.
our graduation will probably have to move inside to the hot gym instead of the outdoor sunset plan.

That same thing happened when my son got married. It never rains in Nevada & it poured. Ugh!
Just tell them it's good luck to get some rain on your wedding day.

Oh no, I'm so sorry about your plans. I've heard it's supposed to be good luck, too - a consolation prize. Praying for sunshine for the wedding!
I had an ice storm the morning of my wedding. My uncle wrecked his plane on landing. Thankfully it was minor damage to the plane. Oh and one lady broke her ankle falling on the ice after the reception. I felt so bad!
I know it's expensive to plan a back-up indoor location for 10% chance of 'just in case' but we do that for our family reunion every year now. 3 years in a row we all sat in our cars at the lake watching the pouring rain scrambling to find somewhere else to meet and lucked into a christian school kitchen/dining hall that is now always our back-up plan and they allow us to only pay if we need it.
Can y'all rent a tent to set up at the wedding site? Is it in a park or something?
pinkytoe, how was the wedding? We ended up with wonderful weather for that night, an outdoor graduation, and a beautiful sunset. Hope to hear you had good weather and a nice ceremony.
Everything worked out fine and the deed is done. Oddly enough, it rained up until about 3p the day of the wedding - cleared up beautifully for 7p start. Ditto the evening before for river cruise with out of town guests. Nice and cool which is odd for this time of year. Great fun watching my staid, older brothers loosen up and dance to Willie songs. We had ordered tents at the last minute so that was an unnecessary expense but better safe than sorry. Lots of great memories and finally we can de-stress from this major life event.
Glad to hear that it all worked out for your family and guests. Weddings are stressful times and dubious weather doesn't help.
