It's been a pretty good birding season so far. The yellow-breasted chats have just recently started spending time here. They are so funny to listen to.....so many strange sounds. And they are almost impossible to see.
This indigo bunting is so stunning. It seems to like the mulberries...which are growing like crazy this year.
The cedar waxwings are sooooo handsome!
We had been seeing a lone doe regularly on our property. DH wondered if it might have a baby somewhere close by. And sure enough........I got this pic of the two of them yesterday.

Nice! Being on the 5th floor, I likely won't get any deer pictures to share (super-Bambi?) but I am hoping for hummingbirds and butterflies.

Thanks everyone! They should be a lot better, but I have trouble concentrating on the manual.
Here are a couple more from tonight's cart ride.
The first is of a bluebird. It's a different bird from the blue one I posted above, which is an indigo bunting.
The second pic is of a common yellowthroat. I love it's black mask.
The third is of a male redwinged blackbird. They always take over the field every spring. I've noticed that the bigger the red stripe on it's upper wing, the higher in the pecking order they seem to be. Their nests are down in the weeds and they stand guard in the trees/bushes all the time.

Haha.......this is a funny one. I didn't realize it when I took the picture. I use my kids' old swingset in my garden to grow cucumbers up. There's a wren that builds its nest in the tube every summer. I took a pic of the house wren tonight, but just now as I was looking at the pics I had taken, I realized that part of the swingset looks like a monster......and the wren is looking at it. Funny!

You are so very lucky to have such beautiful wildlife on your property. It is so touching that you have a doe with it's fawn. So precious...

I came back to look at the Cedar waxwing. He looks so sturdy, what a great bird!

Yes, they are really beautiful birds. And they don't make songs like most birds, but rather a light, airy whistle.

Oooh, I love your photos!! I took about 100 pics trying to capture a Northern Flicker in our alley - not one was any good!! You are really gifted!

Thanks Gardenarian. I'm really not that good though! I love Flickers. We used to have them here a lot, but in the past couple of years I've hardly seen any. Good luck getting a good shot!
I take tons of pics, and maybe get 1 or 2 that are okay. Keep trying!

I beg to differ. You are a talented wildlife photographer and your passion for it comes right through.

Those are some great shots, Catherine! Love them all. I agree that the one on the swing set is funny---really a fortuitous oversight, as it makes the photo even more interesting.

Mmmm...gorgeous! I get a lot of beautiful birds visiting my hummingbird/cottage garden, too. They add so much to the home and garden atmosphere. The older I get, the more I appreciate birds.

Oh, and CathyA, My 18 year old chicken that you asked about finally died. She and my mom went through the same stages a week apart.

Back on topic, one time I had a road runner in my backyard! They are so comical...

Oh Gee awakenedsoul..........I totally missed seeing that about losing your mother. I'm so sorry! ((((hugs))))
And I'm also sorry about your chicken! I had 2 left and one of them died last week. Yours really lived a long life! Mine would have been 12 this week. I think you might qualify in the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest living chicken!
A road runner? haha........I've never seen one of those. I'll bet it was funny.
Again, I'm so sorry for your losses awakenedsoul.

Oh thanks CathyA. They both had long, full lives. I'm sorry about your chicken, too. I love the bird family...they are special creatures. Yeah, the road runner was funny. I love ostriches, too. We have one here at a place called The Gentle Barn. They are beautiful...and this one is so friendly!
