That was great. It's almost sad to think that we watch that now and we think it's darn near miraculous, when it's basically where we came from and how we used to live. Makes me want to dig up some of the clay earth around my home and make some dishes!

My guess is that it probably really is pretty easy. Not "do it in a day" easy, but "keep working at it and it will be done in a month" easy. When's the last time any of us have started a project that would take that long to get done? For a lot of people the answer is "years and years ago". Nothing he did was rocket science. Or even at all difficult. It just took persistence and patience. Frankly, half the reason I want him around if the zombie apocalypse happens is not because he has some super-human shelter building skills (although those skills are good) but because he's a cutie-patootie. If the zombie apocalypse happens it'd be nice not to be lonely.
