Just curious....if anyone here is onboard with Obama's new overtime rules, and if so (or if not), why or why not? On this one I'm 50/50 - I see both positive and negative here. Rob

If you believe in the wage/salary/overtime scheme in the original legislation (the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938), then this is an appropriate and long-overdue action.

The salaried designation can work but it all depends on the generosity of the employer. If overtime is rare (only for a big project) and is partly offset by being able to come in late for a doctor's appointment or so on then it works. But if the employer decides to take advantage of it it doesn't. So it's purely at their discretion.

The original legislation is probably stricter. This excludes anyone earning over about 50k a year, in other words it excludes many of those who are abused with massive work weeks.
