We're half way there!!

I started off today with a bang!
1-25 went through son #1's closet and pulled shorts that are too short, dress shirts he hasn't worn in 3 years, 2 suits his brother stuffed in his closet, sweaters, etc. All will go to thrift shop or consignment shop. Packed up his winter things and will plan to wash and ship them to him at college in the fall.

Two boxes of papers sent to the shredder barrel at work today. If I can cheat and count every document as one, then I'm already past 100 ;)

To JULY 8/15
---1 mug with a crack....garbage
---1 blouse .....charity
---3 magazines to recycle
---1 pair of shorts will never fit..charity
Total 15 to date....I need to confess the deal with the magazines is that they are free at the library or garage sales or very very cheap
so I read them and pull articles if there is anything I like then recycle. I still love to read an actual magazine and free is good also, get a
whole range I would never buy....of course I actually don't buy full price at all any more.....lol
But, it can be an issue to move them back out of the house.

26-31 old brown glass bottles
32-36 cross stitch supplies (haven't touched that in 30+ years)
37-39 paperweights
49-41 perfume atomoizers
42-62 glass ornaments
63 wooden bowl

DH has been going through some of his left over glass supplies, we're going to start listing that for sale in some glassblowing groups.

The fleamarket/antique booth has been doing well - clearing over $100 per month and have to keep looking for more things I can take there. I'll only keep it as long as it's making money and as long as I'm selling things from my own collections (or my moms). I'm not going to buy to sell.

64 pottery bowl
65 lamp
66-86 DS #1 went through his closet again and weeded out more shirts and another suit.
87-89 DS #1 several items from an old girlfriend he was ready to let go

I'm finally able to work on getting rid of stuff again after months away. I took 27 items to Goodwill last week and this weekend threw out a lap desk that got damaged. Total is 28.

I also have two bags of my daughter's clothes packed up and ready to be mailed to her cousin, but I don't count those until they actually make it out the door!

Float On, I'm curious whether you get the okay from your kids to declutter their things? do they trust your judgment or do you make sure they're okay with your decision before you toss, donate, etc.?

They do it on their own. Most of the things I report from them are things I've found in the box in the laundry room we keep there for decluttering. Even when they were little and I would ask if they had anything they wanted to pass on to another child they would bring me items, I never went in to their rooms and just took things I was tired of seeing. So if I say "I went through my son's room" what I really mean is "he" or "we". Son#1 and I together went through his closet but he doesn't like me even entering his room at all so I asked him to pull every single item of clothing out of his room and meet me in the laundry room. I held up each item and he said keep or done. He is not a clothes horse like his brother. He'd be ok with 3 pair of pants and 6 shirts. He just doesn't care.

I finally mailed off 31 pieces of my daughter's clothing for a total of 59 so far for the month.

I'd made a New Year's Resolution to get rid of 1,200 things this year, but it's become clear I've had to prioritize other things. So far, my total for the year is only 278.

However, I expect to have some time to do some major decluttering in the second half of August, so I do think a goal of getting rid of around 700 things this year is pretty realistic, and that would still make a big difference in my home. I hit that number a few years ago (after starting with a goal of only 365), and it was a bit of a triumph for me. Mostly, I just want to be sure that for the next few years, I get rid of more than I take in, and I think when I hit around 700, I can be pretty confident I've done so.
