I know that the herons we have around here are very easily spooked by human activity. I wish we would quit thinking we have to show people everything out there.......whether it might disturb things or not. I like the idea of letting animals/birds have big areas where humans just aren't allowed.
I'm not sure if this was the case in this article though.

Wow, it's weird that it happened so suddenly, though. I mean, the birders didn't just suddenly start going out there to look at them, did they? I don't doubt that it is human-caused, but the suddenness of it throws me. The chain reaction of consequences is dreadful, too.

Such beautiful birds...I'm glad they've found, at least a temporary, alternative island.
