Any other simplicity/minimalist fisherman (or women) on here?

Hey, I often try to fish with the minimal and most simple gear and tackle I can both for the challenge and the sheer joy of simplicity fishing. Anyone else out there with a tiny tacklebox? haha

Any words of wisdom? Fishing advice? Or better still... great simplicity/minimalist fishing stories?

I take a stringer and my little short fishing pole because it's easier to use on my kayak. If I'm going down Taneycomo I make sure my trout license is with my regular fishing license in a ziplock bag in my pocket. I carry a little 3x4" container with a few flies or lures, weights, an extra float, add a few of those crappie bait balls to one of the dividers and a tiny pair of fold up scissors. I can float the stringer behind me and move them to a bucket when I get back to the truck. Then I filet them at home. Pretty simple. I've never liked doing anything where you have to pack around a ton of supplies.

As I get ready to type this, I am thinking: "How simple is my fishing set up really?" haha

My take my canoe and throw a cooler of ice in the back, so I can turn and put fish in it as I catch them. I have a tackle box -- pretty small that is like a satchel across my shoulder. I have a 15 lbs. anchor (gets windy!). I have a tiny ultralite (obviously) spinning rod/reel. I keep some live bait, usually worms but sometimes minnows in a minnow bucket. I also have a paddle.

When I fish from the bank it is way, way simple -- rod/reel, tackle satchel, bait, stringer or cooler (a smaller one).

I read The River Why (Great book!) so I know trout fishing is a real... thing. It is the fish my father fishes for most too.

There is a lake near my house with trout in it. Last year I caught a handful while jigging for panfish. I cooked them and they were so-so. This year I went out and caught a bunch. I cooked them a few different ways, but they just weren't that great. I prefer crappies, bluegills, and catfish. Call me a hillbilly, but trout just ain't my kind of eatin' fish.
