View Full Version : Frugal Home Spruce Up
It always come back to my basic of just loving lots of white in my home. It is who I am. I don't want everything white, but I want to reduce the amount of black and I have some blue and red I want to remove. I think it will go a long way in a bringing in a more cohesive look. I have all shades of white, from pure white to tans/beiges on the lights side, to add texture and interest. There is also a mix of industrial to a few things- metals, silver finishes, etc. to break it up and add brightness.
I have decided to set aside $550 (from my selling off of things I no longer want) to freshen up the house. It's a bit of a challenge, because obviously I don't want to buy just to buy things.
I will keep accountable here.
1. Pillow cases- 4 King in white $19.56
2. Can of Behr Paint in Sea Salt- $23 with coupon and 10% discount
3. New glass hardware for dresser, 2 nightstands and console table, 10 knobs $45
Total $87.56

Your home sounds like a dream to me! I really like white with metallic finishes here and there and tone on tone. You did so well with your purchases!
I plan to spruce up the hall bath after the boys launch next month. Decor will be using what I have - we have plenty. I will spend some money on paint for the walls and the vanity, new shower curtain and floor mat, new light-switch and towel rods and TP holder, and new towels. It's currently kind of old world dark golden walls and navy fabrics. I think it's going to go bright white (it's interior so no window....so stupid). I think I'll remove the wood wall cabinet above the commode and replace it with white shelves or metal baskets. It just seriously needs to go light and bright in there. And...I need a few projects to work on their first semester.
I am looking for more cohesiveness. We don't know when we are going to move but I am going to live in my home until that point. Most of the houses in our neighborhood, people buy them and then do their own thing. This includes a beautifully decorated home with all the bells and whistles, stylish interior, and the new owners completely changed everything. But I got off subject...
I like the look of metal and a little sparkle. I am trying to come up with a way to salvage the builder grade 5 light dining room fixture. Thinking of spray painting and adding some crystals for some sparkle...maybe???

Hi Txzen, just a thought, if your dining room light fixture is chandelier type you could always put those little lampshades on top of each light and still add your crystal....
Float on, we are also in the midst of remaking our bathroom over, we had it gutted, but put white wainscoting in about four feet high and painted it white too since we also have no windows in this half-bath. White is so popular right now.....I have to figure out the little details as you have now. I was wondering if a picture shelf with some of my nice butterfly pictures woukd be nice in there. I would probably have to laminate the pictures first to protect from moisture...
