DH and I will have been married 35 years on Saturday. We normally go out to a nice restaurant but more and more it seems like the value for money spent is just not there. DH surprised me though by saying why don't we go to the specialty grocery store and make up our own gourmet meal. Even with the finest ingredients and a nice bottle of wine, it would cost a third less than eating out. I'm game!!
We're going shopping together tomorrow morning before it gets crowded to pick out some good stuff and then prepare it together. Just have to find the candles...

Congratulations on your anniversary! I love that type of date. So much more fun than a restaurant.

Congratulations, pinkytoe and Mr. pinkytoe -- 35 years is an impressive accomplishment!

I love the make-your-own gourmet meal celebrations -- we taken to doing that on New Year's Eve and we really enjoy it!

Yes, happy anniversary! And you are so right about the restaurant thing--DH fall into that trap sometimes: we go out because we feel we "should" go out simply because it's an anniversary, but then we feel we would have been just as happy at home. I think your idea of a gourmet "bring-in" mean is great!

Congrats!

Fun! Happy anniversary, you two -- sounds like it's still a good match after all this time. :)

What did you prepare? I want the foodie details :)

This sounds appealing to me too. I like browsing the gourmet food shops but usually don't buy much. I agree most restaurants really aren't worth it just for the money paid for the food (I go to restaurants sometimes to socialize with people who get more out of them than I do - but otherwise?)

Foodie details...Local lamb steaks smoked over mesquite wood (from dd's yard) - beet salad with arugula, goat cheese, mandarins and walnuts- smoked sweet corn with aoili butter and a nice Malbec wine. Much simpler than we planned but perfectly fine.

Happy anniversary! That dinner sounds fantastic, btw. You had me at goat cheese.

Yummy - that sounds like a perfect meal, even down to my favorite red wine. :)
Happy Anniversary!
