Do you think your feelings when drunk are more accurate then your sober feelings.

Sometimes they seem more accurate, but with all the meds I have to take these days I rarely ever drink enough to get drunk....

They are more instinctual and without a social filter. In other words, it's your amygdala without your prefrontal cortex - your emotions without foresight or judgment.

LOL, if that's the case, then I suppose my true feelings are "I WANT TO GO TO SLEEP RIGHT NOW!" All it takes is one drink to get that deep-rooted feeling to come out! :)

Alcohol is a depressant, so you are more likely to dwell on negative feelings the more you drink. So your feelings may be "true" but filtered toward the most unpleasant ones.

This.

And, as a result, people often describe the feelings as "stronger" or "more intense," which is why we often believe that these must be our "true" feelings and not those that we have when we are sober.

I have never been drunk. What does that say about my feelings?

LOL Selah........me too. In fact, it seems to only take a very small drink for that feeling to come out.

I haven't been out and out drunk since highschool. More than One drink is plenty to mellow me out, make me smile even more than I normally do, and the deep desire to find a place to cozy up and take a nap.

Really good way to describe it! A couple of sips and I get a taste of the buzz which is very unpleasant and uncomfortable for me so I now avoid alcohol. That said, I am fairly transparent in my feelings so don't need a drink anyway.

Well, I enjoy a glass of wine or beer almost on a daily basis. Sometimes two. For medicinal purposes.

My best friend when I was a little kid and throughout our teen years became an alcoholic. When I took a few sips of wine in mass I thought: "This stuff is gross!" Then in middle school I took a few sips of beer. Again: "This is nasty!"

His brother gave him some beer and liquor around that same age. But he just thought: "Okay, I have found my vocation!"

And he has been possessed by the demon in the bottle ever since. It has destroyed his life in many ways.

Strange how some people can quit after one and some just go hog wild.

It mostly makes me dizzy and bit out of it too really, maybe not necessarily sleepy but that's the closest. It DOES reduce anxiety, so that is a use for it there, as I'm just kind of in a bit of a daze, so that anxiety doesn't seem very important anymore mostly. But not a lot else.

It does eventually make me sleepy but if it's late in the day, it's a bad sleep which I then wake up from in a few hours. What does it say about me that I often feel I have too much to do to be willing to accept the night of ruined sleep? (probably that I'm old) Granted that happens anyway sometimes with some insomnia etc. but alcohol will guarantee it if it's late in the day.

Yes, it is strange. A couple people in my family were alcoholics, but it makes me so sick I just couldn't be one if I wanted to. If I have more than 1 drink I feel quite bad. And I'm free enough with my feelings and relaxed enough that there's not much of a reason to drink. I haven't managed to avoid it completely though, like you have.

I smoked weed in my youth, but one day suddenly became paranoid, and it was no more fun. Decades passed until I found my next drug--red wine. It's lovely and I enjoy two glasses daily.

I like red wine but it gives me killer heart burn so I stick with white or sparkling whites. You'd think I was a lush as much white as I buy and have but I rarely find the perfect mood. Will probably find more time to sit on my porch with an evening glass this fall while the kids are gone to college. Oh good! I have something to look forward to!

It is really weird how people are so different in how they can tolerate things. I can tell after ONE sip of wine that I have alcohol in me. My arms feel weird.
And when I would smoke marijuana in my 20's......it made me feel soooooooooo dizzy and sick to my stomach. So I decided that I'm happier with a coke or maybe chocolate.......or ice cream......or.... :)

No, you just feel that way when you are drunk. Drunk is not a good thing.

I think it depends. Being a little bit drunk can make you a little braver about expressing feelings you already have, they seem much more pressing. In the case of someone who's a perpetual stone-waller, this can actually be useful at times. Or help you write a diary entry that gets to the root of something. Being very drunk ... I think it twists perceptions to the point that no, what you're feeling is not an amplified version of your normal thoughts. Beer goggles, dontcha know, are not known for their clarity.
