Hey how come no one ever told me that as we age our teeth move around a bit.
In my front teeth I have a very small gap between a couple of teeth that wasn't there before. Who told them they could just get up and move?

I see now why old crones might just have some higgledy piggledy teeth. Have you experienced this?:D

After I got my wisdom teeth removed at age 31 there was some shifting... So at 34, because I had good union dental insurance I got braces. Time consuming, troublesome, and expensive without insurance. :/

Mine are so tight and I never had to have my wisdom teeth removed. I've often wondered if I had a few removed the rest would spread out a bit and give me more flossing room!

Yeah, my bottom front teeth seem to be migrating a bit.
My dentist explained to me the "getting long in the tooth" expression. Our gums recede and actually make our teeth look longer.
There isn't enough room here for me to list all the things that are changing on me, now that I'm older...............:~)
One thing though......if the sun hits my face just right, I look like a fuzzy werewolf. I have soft white fuzz all over my face! :|(
That's right...........it ain't for sissies.

Well, now I know. I always notice that older people's teeth look longer especially when comparing wedding pictures to anniversary (50th) pictures. I thought it was because their faces are usually thinner making the teeth look more prominent but now I know there is a real reason for it.

When I was in my 20's, my dentist asked if my wisdom teeth ever bothered me. I didn't even know I have wisdom teeth because all my peers had to have theirs removed so I just assumed as I had no problem that I just never got wisdom teeth and was thankful for the 'dental flaw'.

A doctor once remarked on what a nice job someone did removing my tonsils. I responded that I still had my tonsils. His response "Are you sure?"

hahaha! I wonder what THAT means??! Funny, I asked my ENT once what those white areas were in the back of my throat, and he said "I don't see anything".
then I asked my dentist and he said "Oh, that's where your tonsils used to be." He thought maybe the ENT was so used to seeing throats with tonsils removed, and he didn't notice anything.

But gee............tonsils are pretty obvious, right? Maybe you have really tiny ones?? Do you have any white areas on each side of the back of your throat?

My dentist has recently complimented my gums and how healthy they look. I told him I was doing a lot of aerobic exercise and that was the only new thing. He said my exercise is probably helping circulation and that in turn helps keep gums healthy. Who would know that? (I also eat less sugar and sugary drinks than before.)

My teeth have migrated to the point that my bite does not line up so my teeth are hurting each other. They are loose etc. By the time my dentist sent me to a specialist he said it was too late to save my teeth. He said if I had been sent a few years earlier it would have had a different outcome. It also is pulling my jaw to the left.

My bite has really changed over the years too. Some of it might be because I developed TMJ and wear a MORA (mandibular oral repositioning appliance) in my mouth every night. (Between that, taping my mouth, wearing a CPAP mask, sometimes wearing ace bandages on various parts.........I'm just so danged cute at night! :laff: )
But funny you should mentioned this......I just noticed this morning that my bite is different than it was just yesterday...

Teacher Terry.......can you see someone about repositioning your jaw? The appliance I wear actually did that.

I wore braces for over three years when I was 10-13 years old. Back then, they wrapped around your teeth; I also had to wear headgear. They greatly improved my overbite and were worth it. Now, 35 years later, they are shifting. Wish I kept my retainer and wore it every night for the rest of my life.

I had braces for 4 years from 4th to 8th grade, including a headgear to fix my overbite. Today I am still willing to spend time and money on dental care because my mother beat it into my head that I needed to take care of my teeth after they spent so much money getting them lined up. Other than replacing all the fillings I got as a kid I've not had too much go wrong since reaching adulthood.

I'm sure part of mom's attitude about teeth was also because she had had no dental care as a child, being one of eight children of struggling farmers during the dust bowl and ended up getting false teeth by the time she was in her early 30's as a result. At 47 my teeth are still beautifully aligned and healthy and I'm very thankful that my parents decided to spend the money on orthodontia for me. If they start to move around I will likely listen to any recommendations that my dentist has regarding treatment to deal with that.

I started using cpap about 18 months ago and think it has moved my teeth. I just recently switched to a different mask and it seems to put less pressure on my upper lip. I have had a sore tongue because of the slight movement of my teeth so they are sharper against my tongue, which can't leave them alone. There is always something.

Thanks Cathy for the advice. I will look into that. I also have a CPAP machine. The first time i put the mask on one of my little dogs that saw me do it ran away as fast as she could.

I also have a cpap machine and I use the nose pillows, which I like just fine.
