So the kids might be alright?

That article describes all three of my kids - born between 83 and 88. They outdo me at minimalism and frugality.
I found it annoying when one guy said "they will age out of it". How condescending.
Baby boomers and gen Xers can be so easily threatened by the youngsters. :)

That cynic who said they will age out of it is basically speculating. The future has not happened. Their future has not happened.
I was born in 1979, the last year to qualify as "Generation X." And I do indeed feel like I straddle that line between Gen X and Millennials.

Tammy:
I also just want to add this: Maybe it is less generational and more a reflection of your excellent parenting skills! :)
I will choose to believe my friend the fisherman and ignore the social science people :D

We were talking to our 30 year old neighbor,a few days ago. He shared that he and his fiancé visited a financial, planner for the first time, motivated by their parents' lack of financial competence.
i guess that we boomers have a bad reputation among this group.

Thats funny, I thought that generation was dragging down the baby boomers and ruining their retirements.

Damn, I just don't know which stereotype to buy into! :D

If these articles are accurate it would seem that the millennial so, either by choice or necessity, are not living the extreme consumption lifestyle that the large corporations spend so much money trying to convince us to adopt.

I heard the term "gig economy" and thought of a friend who is still paying for school, doesn't own a car, and took public transportation to get to her three part-time jobs in three different towns. I fear this is the future.
I heard a news story recently that started out , millennials are responsible for more potholes in our roads. The rest of the story was that millennials seem to be driving less and are driving more fuel efficient cars, so they are paying less of the gasoline tax that goes to road maintenance. The logic seemed a little convoluted, but I thought the driving habits of the millennials was good news.
