Tenkara fishing - paging UltralightAngler!

So, I've been thinking - one of these wee Tenkara-style rigs might be just the thing around here in our teeny lakes and wee streams, and be easy to pack around, and not require much gear.

Any experience with this, or thoughts?

I mean, now I usually just carry line and lures, and cut a sapling, so I'm a low-tech guy.

I have no experience with them but I have heard from people that they are really fun!

If I ever fly fish I am going for a Tenkara! So simple, very minimalist. :)

I have a nice fly fishing setup, but it's simply too much junk to carry around. I was in a mountaineering shop here in Colorado Springs getting some climbing gear yesterday, and they had a display of the Tenkara-style gear - I'd never heard of such a thing, but it seems well-suited to minimalist expeditions/trekking. I didn't have time to talk to the folks about it, as I had to meet relatives for lunch. I shall go back later this week to investigate, as it looks like you could very precisely taunt fish in small places with it.

That is what I have observed with the fly-fishers here -- lots of stuff to lug.

Watching the Tenkara videos on youtube makes it so tempting! I'd probably use it for big bluegills around here, though there are some trouting spots not too far away.

If you give it a try let me know what you think. Word on the street is that it is easy to catch on to!
