that pleases you?

When I lived in Vancouver I saw coffee shops and people from all around the world, and fabulous apples and oranges and produce in the fruit stalls and loved my walk.

Now I live on an island on the west coast and the ocean is 2 minutes from home. This morning I saw: 2 kingfishers, an otter, a great blue heron and 2 seals.

There is beauty everywhere, what do you see?

Lots of trees and lakes and wildlife. Woodpeckers, kingfishers, herons (blue and green), all sorts of other birds, mink, deer, fox. I love watching the sailboats and other kayakers (could do without the big motorboats and jetskis).
Sometimes if I go "downtown" and walk down along Lake Taneycomo I see this.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saoGA3PBpFY I get a little tired of hearing the same music every night.

Beautiful cloud formations, sunrises, and sunsets. Grasses and lichen. Forest. Sandhill cranes. The bluebirds and the swallows. The wind in the trees.

What a nice thread!

I walk my dog every day, so I get to enjoy lots of things…

If I go the "street way" I like greeting other dog-walkers, runners and bikers, looking at the curb appeal of my neighbors' houses, checking out their throw-aways on the curb, the sun rising, kids waiting for the school bus, the memories of all my friends who had houses in the neighborhood but moved over the past 30 years.

If I go the "creek way" I get to see the grasses and wildflowers, the ducks, the deer (just got up close and personal with one the other day), the trees, the leaves, the kids playing at the school. I get to wonder why the new neighbor has SO MUCH CRAP in her backyard. I get to listen to the chickens clucking in the other back yard. I get to see the backdrop of woods behind the creek. Thankfully I haven't seen as many geese--their droppings sure make walking in the grass treacherous.

I notice blackberries are encroaching on the mailbox and my fir needs trimming.

I notice how people landscape their yards. If it was all grass like it is some places that would be boring, but it's not, people do stuff, dry river beds and oaks on their property, or native plants or cactus etc.. I never used to like cactus but drought must be a state of mind, I'm now very into them (and agaves, old agaves are things of great beauty) if they are done right (not just a cactus and dry dirt, that's not interesting).

And yes since it was mentioned, I do notice fabulous oranges and other citrus when in season (that is winter), growing on the trees, it's very beautiful - crisp blue sky, slight chill or not, some turning leaves, citrus against super green citrus leaves - we call that "winter" :)

Quite a bit of wildlife for an urban neighborhood - cooper's hawks that have claimed our area as theirs, monk parrots that are taken over and do a lot of screeching, way too many squirrels and various lounging cats. Houses in various stages of remodeling or tearing down (one is being moved so that is interesting to watch). Lost of people running, walking, biking. The oddest thing lately was the back end of a cat as if sawed in half. I am told it was the work of a coyote.

I just realized if we were still in SC the answer would have been dolphins, alligators, and ospreys, and I'm feeling kind of sad about it.

Lots of squirrels and deer. The squirrels are a bit loony right now, stashing away all the acorns and walnuts for the winter. Blue jays, hawks, crows, lots of little birds, big fat robins. Wonderful gardens! Ashland has many alleys and I like to walk them and see the backside of everything. Oaks full of mistletoe, views of the Cascade mountains capped with snow...it's so beautiful, I'm so lucky to live here.

Office workers from pretty much every ethnicity imaginable busily going about their day. Construction workers on their lunch breaks. Tourists looking at their maps and pointing at things and hopping on the cable cars. The bay bridge stretching out to the horizon with a constant stream of tiny cars and trucks going in and out of the city. Sea gulls swooping down trying to get people to drop some food.

So many trees. My friends in Portland talk sadly about all the modest (and not so modest) houses and trees that are being torn down to build throw-up high density housing everywhere. In contrast, I live in a virtual forest--wall to wall trees and foliage of every kind, and at this time of year, many colors. I'm so very lucky to live here.
