View Full Version : fixed my meditation bench
I got a wooden meditation bench for free! I wanted one for my birthday and a couple months ago a guy was visiting our group and literally had one in his car he had been driving around with to give away. Freaky huh, apparently his knees couldn't do the bench anymore. Only issue is that it slips and slides. It is smooth wood with folding legs that have smooth bottoms. I had some luck putting it on a yoga mat but still slippery. Then yesterday I bought sticky strips at the hardware store, the rough strips you can put on the edge of a stair to make them slip-proof, and put strips on the bottom of the legs. It sat so very nice after that.
I still want something for the seat but don't want to cover the engraving. I was thinking about the chair pads with the rubberized side so they don't slip, similar to a rug pad? I looked at the fabric store and couldn't find anything like that, open to ideas here.
You can buy separate rug pads--Thick Grip and Cushioned Rug Pad are the names on some I have. They can be cut, and they're perforated for easy sewing.

I am having a hard time visualizing what you are talking about with the bench--I am seeing in my mind's eye a piano bench? You could bungee a memory foam pad on top, if that's the case, but not sure if that would meet your needs?
The memory foam pads are not slippery, is what I am thinking.
There's also the kind of fabric they use for slipper soles and PJ feet:

Think a lot smaller and shorter. It is an all wood bench with legs that fold up when not in use. So the sitting part is about 18 inches long and 6-8 inches wide. It supports you sitting on your bottom without holding your weight on your knees which make them go numb too fast. So the whole thing tips a little to keep the back straight and your rear end up. I don't know how to attach a photo to show it but the Omni bench is pretty much it.
I like the rug grip idea. It is not permanent and with a cover it could look very nice. I found on longer retreats that I switch back and forth from cushion to bench for comfort. My last retreat I did a lot of outside and sitting on rock is apparently my thing as well
