Whoah, stop the train!
you have a bulldog??!!!
oh please, need information about him/her. She so pretty!
We can talk about those long snouted dogs later.haha.
Yes..she was my 40th Birthday present last year. I always wanted one. We tried to adopt through rescues and 2 of them died on us. SO- I found another rescue that takes the fee and applies it towards the rescue. She is purebred.
She is a hoot and my hot mess. :)

Oh she is lovely indeed! She looks freshly bathed. She is very pretty.
We've had around 15-20 bUlldogs through our house in the past 22 years. Some of them have been our dogs, some have been foster dogs. And then there are the Frenchies,we've had 8 Frenchies over the years. We took in 6 of them at one time. madness!
we have one bulldog right now, a foster failure. He came here as a foster dog and
I couldn't let him go. It is very weird for us to be down to only one dog.
I'm on the Board of the local bulldog Rescue group and my friend is head of national bulldog rescue.
theres nothing like a bulldog, they are the sweetest, funniest dogs in the world.

6 at one time! I am impressed!
TXZen, I don't think I've ever seen a white Great Dane. All those dogs look like they have it rough, lol. The newest addition hit doggy lotto!
Yes they have a very rough life..we are currently looking for an additional loveseat so we have somewhere to sit. LOL I have met a LOT of deaf boxers but not a deaf dane. She is smart as a whip, I tell ya. She learned how to use the dog door in 2 times trying, we already gave her new hand signals and she is a sweetheart on the leash. I do think she can hear very LOUD noises and high pitches. Oh and if as long as you touch her gently before you pet her, say she is sleeping, she does not snap or jolt.
Iris Lilies- Sounds like my kind of fun!!! We once transported 6 deaf white boxers at once. It was the most hilarious 1.5 hour ride, especially ordering doggie ice cream for everyone at once!!

when ex-BF and I split, Bernice immediately claimed the pillows next to my face as hers. There are the 2 decorative king size shams and 2 regular pillows, she moves them all around to her satisfaction, sometimes her butt is facing my face and I make her start all over. I know you're not supposed to spoil your dogs or they'll believe they are alpha but I spoil these two dogs and their behavior is perfect IMHO. Spoil as allow them on my furniture and on top of my bed, unlimited belly rubs, not spoil by giving them people food, copious treats. Bedding can be washed and I always bought lower priced furniture so if the couch is dead after 10 yrs with dogs on it, it's ok, that expense was expected. Seeing a once horribly abused, scared, sick dog now confidently arrange her bed like the Princess and the Pea makes me happy.

isn't a great Dane dog door practically human sized? I'd worry about robbers on your behalf but I have a feeling that's your gang of three would scare anyone right back out!
when you guys foster or rescue but don't keep the dog, I know you pay for food, etc but do you have to pay the vet bills, too? I think I've mentioned I want to do dog hospice when I am better but my mother's physical therapist actually does this for a rescue and she had to pay all vet bills and she does up to 12 dogs at once! I can't begin to pay a lot of vet bills and just assumed the organizations paid for that.

Our rescue group pays vet bills, generally. We use a specific veterinarian who give us a very generous discount, and he knows a lot about Bulldogs. He has had Bulldogs himself as pets. Nfortunately, he is 40 minutes away.
Vet bills are the main expense of our group, and that's why we do fund raising. We just had a young dog who needed a heart valve replaced for $4,000. That's speciality surgery, our vet couldn't do it.
with my foster dogs I paid their vet bills for simple things such as inoculations and heartworm test because it's easier for me to take these dogs to my vet who is just a few blocks away.
With my dog, Teddy, who came here as a foster dog,I insisted on taking him to the Board certified skin doctor because he had terrible skin problems and I didn't want to goof around any more with veterinarians in general practice. My rules, so I paid for it. His former family had taken him to a general vet who pushed prednisone and antibiotics, and I wanted state of the art treatment for him. Also, within a year he had a kidney stone and needed surgery for that. So that was about $3,000 within a short time. By then we had adopted him as our own dog so those bills were entirely ours.

IL, if I might ask, what did the state of the art skin doc do for the doggie? We have a cairn with skin problems, who replaced our Westie with horrible skin problems.
Prednisone and antibiotics have been what we have been given for her. We have the cairn on grain free food and the first one that seems to help is duck and sweet potato. Better, but not there.

He takes Apoquel twice a day, and if he misses a day his skin starts to swell up. It is a miracle drug and it costs about $50 per month. Apoquel has been out on the American market for about 2 years. In the beginning there were shortages.
prior to that Teddy was on Atopica, and while that controlled his skin nicely, he had bad reactions. It was more expensive at $100 per month, so I am happy for this current drug regime.
he is also on grain free diet, but nothing special. His skin is so bad that I think he is allergic to the world.
its funny that I always said that I would take dogs with a variety of health problems, but no skin problems. I hate those. So who shows up at my house but the funniest bulldog in the world and he's got severe skins problems. Of course We had had to keep him, he is a riot! And I am just so greatful that this drug controls his skin eruptions.

Most rescues pay all the vet bills as long as you take the dog to their vet. I know people that can afford it so they pay themselves which helps the rescue.

thanks, IL-- Apoquel is what someone in SC recommended to me at a party; her dog had a gorgeous quote and she said he was highly allergic. She said she had to beg for it at the vets and there was a shortage. We moved back up here and I don't think the vet has it--skin problems seem so much worse down south, for some reason.
I am glad your guy is doing well on it.
Most rescues pays the bills, get you food, etc. You just have to foster them and help love and train them.
Yes, the dog door is human size or just about (3 feet or so tall??) but I am not worried about it. When we lived in CA, we left the porch screen door open but locked. We were just running out to get our son and come back. We came back and the screen door was ripped off. My first thought was "where is my dog?" She was happily wagging her Boxer butt in the living room...all we could see was one foot print on the railing and one in the garden bed..she must have scared the life out of whomever it was. She was sitting right by the door in the recliner, but it was kinda off on an angle where you can't see if you looked in. She was never a barker, until you invaded her space. HAHAHA!! That still gives me the giggles.

All due respect to bulldogs, but I do believe basset hounds are at least as funny. Not that I'm partial or anything.

Paddi B Basset thanks you for the support.
Especially when we had two, I don't think we ever walked by anyone who didn't grin. Some people point and laugh.
Paddi B says that is all part of the service.
