The republicans will be down to single digits for presidential candidates before long. Any predictions on who's next?

Yep. And Huckabee...and probably Bush.

Pataki is from NY, two term Governor and we're not even talking about him here. A non-starter. And he's not heinous, he doesn't make racial slurs, I don't like him, I don't want him but at least he didn't seem to come from the clown car. Because of that, I thought if he actually tried he could get some traction, instead it seems like he really could care less.

Actually, I don't know how Carson remains at the top. He is so sedate and vague with details...a vote for him would be like jello for dinner.

It seems to me that Kasich and Cruz are being ignored by the media unless they do or say something in hopes of attention, at which time a negative slant is portrayed. The media seems to promote whoever they consider the most entertaining.

I would say Christie would be the next one out.

I'm kind of bummed about that. I believe that Trump stole Christie's thunder. Of course Christie didn't help himself by being tangled in Bridgegate, but he would have survived better without Trump being the louder of the loud in-your-face, say-it-like-it-is politicians.

Williamsmith
11-19-15, 5:26pm
There is no way in hell Trump will be your nominee. That is not his purpose. Fiorina is in the wrong party to get serious consideration. Christie hugged his way out of consideration before he even decided to run. Kasich is a man without a brand. Someone to be considered for VP. Jeb Bush is the only one that has an organization out in front of him waiting for him to catch up, but he just can't seem to get interested in the whole Presidential Nominee rigamarole. Rubio is a guy that could say all the right things and tow the party line....he is a real front runner but he is awfully young. The Republican Establishment is scared stiff of Cruz because he is like a pit bull on a rusty chain. Never know when he is going to break loose and bite the neighbors kid.

My guess is they settle for a Rubio even though it means losing to Hillary.

I am of the opinion that we will have a Republican President next time around. It's just my gut feeling and even though I am a liberal and even though I personally like Hillary Clinton, I realize that she is a polarizing figure and there are many who can't stand her. Because I feel this way I am very concerned about who gets the GOP nomination.....I personally would want it to go to Rubio as he doesn't strike me as too radical.....but I'd rather it go to anyone other than Trump as I can't even see the Republicans, his own party to date, working with him. He would make for very embarrassing and entertaining sound bites of his latest - kind of like we had a governor in Arizona, Evan Mecham, in the mid to late 80's who was always putting his foot in his mouth and thankfully was impeached. I believe such would happen with Trump - eventual impeachment and such would not make the GOP look good.

I hope for all of us, no matter which side of the aisle, Trump does not get the nomination. OTOH, if he does, and it's a Trump and Clinton battle, I have the feeling that would get very interesting as I believe Hillary could hold her own against Trump. We'll see but my take away here is if it's a Republican President next time, I'm hoping for Rubio......Rob

No. Never again.

https://www.yahoo.com/politics/donald-trump-has-big-plans-1303117537878070.html

Really?

-----------------------

Yahoo News asked Trump whether his push for increased surveillance of American Muslims could include warrantless searches. He suggested he would consider a series of drastic measures.

“We’re going to have to do things that we never did before. And some people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule,” Trump said. “And certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy. And so we’re going to have to do certain things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.”

Yahoo News asked Trump whether this level of tracking might require registering Muslims in a database or giving them a form of special identification that noted their religion. He wouldn’t rule it out.

“We’re going to have to — we’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely,” Trump said when presented with the idea. “We’re going to have to look at the mosques. We’re going to have to look very, very carefully.”

I do not think Trump will be the nominee & I don't think that we will ever allow Muslims to be subjected to special ID's. Hopefully, we have learned something from the past. I went to Auschwitz & you literally can feel the pain & people's souls. I really don't know how to explain it but a heaviness hangs over the camp & I actually had a physical reaction to being there & not in a good way. I am not sorry I went but never want to go to another camp ever again.

For those of you firmly in the camp of the "Not OK with this".....let me point out that all of us have an arm of the government paid for by our tax dollars that routinely conducts warrantless searches. It is the National Security Agency under the Department of defense. The NSA collects personal data that can give an alarmingly accurate profile of who you hang out with, what your medical problems are, how you worship, what type of vehicles you own, what you spend your money on, how much income you have , what books you read, where you like to go for entertainment, if you have mental or psychiatric treatment and exactly what medications you are on right down to the brand of multivitamin you take.

Your cellular provider is all too cooperative with permanent government requests to forward this information for storage and all to able to provide well categorized phone records and even text messaging. All without thought to what probable cause is or who a judge is.

You may justify this by saying, "I have nothing to hide." Not the point. The fourth amendment was created to keep the government from abusing its citizens and protect from arbitrary police power.

Rand Paul is the only candidate currently addressing this.

Not really, it's quite a small piece of land. There are ~2.8 million Muslims in the USA, stuffing them into 45 square miles would result in a population density about like Manhattan.

Isn't it odd that my 100% German father--1st generation American on his mother's side--wasn't interned or threatened with internment? I've always found that telling. We should be ashamed of our treatment of Japanese-Americans and all the "other" that we characterize as bogeymen just because it's the easy thing to do. No thinking required.

And that's a very naughty thing they are doing, as it is outside the scope of their organization to spy domestically, and it is arguably quite illegal.

So, I'm not OK with that either, and I never have been.

I remember right after 9/11, when we got back to our business travel, I was eating lunch with a colleague who was talking about her recent flight. "I was so freaked out," she said, "There was a guy with a TURBAN sitting next to me."

So, I said to her, "why would that freak you out? The terrorists who blew up the planes weren't wearing turbans."

She couldn't answer. But it was an example how we subconsciously make those leaps of faulty logic. John is a Muslim. John is a terrorist. Therefore all Muslims are terrorists. How about John is a Christian. John is a member of the KKK. Therefore all Christians are members of the KKK. Both are illogical. Which feels less logical?

I have a close relative who thinks all Middle Eastern folks are terrorists. Boggles my mind. He lived next to one and when I was waiting for him to come outside so we could go fishing I ended up sparking up a conversation with the Middle Eastern guy. Turns out he was a keen fisherman!

My relative was none too pleased. But it goes to show, you cannot judge folks.

I also have a couple friends from college who were brought up Islamic. They both boldly left their faith. Luckily their families were moderate. No harm came upon them.

Another friend who I met recently moved here from Syria a few years ago. She joined our atheist group. She is apparently "out" to no one because she could be in harm's way. Sad.
