Because I have spent the last seven years working exclusively online, and now I am going from full time to part time, I am finding the transition to more of the day free from viewing a computer screen to be interesting.
So I thought it might be fun to post each day about something we have done that involves in-real life, non screen time activities.
Today I am . . .
Making new laundry soap (we are almost out)
Making chocolate chip cookies
Hanging laundry
Converting old blue jeans to knittable fabric yarn for a bathrug project
What are you all doing today offline?

I need to return a batch of library books, so am skimming a bunch of them. Since yesterday morning I've gone through 5 or 6, and one of them is a pretty good graphic novel about aging parents in the vein of "Can't we talk about something more pleasant" and this one is called "Special exits: a graphic memoir" by Joyce Farmer.
in this book plunge I got caught up into a little book about stalking. It's the true story of a male college professor stalked by his student. I don't know how it will end up, but it's interesting because he's an established writer and he knows how to tell the stor. It's called "give me everything you have" by James Lasdun.
Now that this post has moved into book discussion, I'll probably move it later to the book thread.

Yesterday I did laundry and hung it out on the clothesline, too. I also make my own laundry powder. I baked a dozen homemade oatmeal cookies. I keep the batter in the fridge and just make 12 at a time. I harvested some lettuce and mesclun greens from my garden and made a nice salad for lunch. I used olive oil, fresh garlic, balsamic vinegar, and herbs for the dressing. I also cooked a batch of hash browns for breakfast. I had the leftovers for dinner.
I practiced my singing, and worked on some songs that I need to learn by downloading them off the Internet. (Oops...that's on line time. I forgot.)
I rode the bike and exercised the dogs. Oh, I also went to the car wash and worked on my knitting while they polished the car. Before bed, I did an hour of yoga and meditation. Great day...

Since I am retiring in two months and won't be parked in front of a computer all day, I am just now imagining all the things I want to try. The primary things I do now that don't involve screens are cooking, walking, gardening and reading but I hope to add some new endeavors.

Adding that one to my list!
I make lots of lists of things I want to do. I keep a little notebook and make a 10 things list anytime the mood strikes. Then when I have time to do stuff I look through the lists and see if there is anything I can mark off.
Unplugging from the computer is great. Wednesday was a day off internet for me and I made cookies, cleaned the house, organized the hall closet, built a new cat box (outdoor cat) for the winter with a heating pad in it (she is loving it already), finished up a wood-burned ornament project, sewed a new dog bed, gave the dog a bath, played piano, added "take cello lessons" to my list book. It's amazing what you can do when unplugged.
Playing "victim in the woods" for an EMT class doing their first outside exercises. Good thing I have warm clothes :-)

Mr. Money mustache just wrote an article about this. He was shocked to learn he easily was spending three hours a day online when he downloaded some app to track his time. I also have spent little time on the Internet in the past month. I find myself playing stupid games or checking Facebook again. I have a Fitbit and increased my steps by 12%. Mostly because i freed up some time.
I also am slowly again cleaning out all my drawers and closets and doing a lot of organizing, as well as more quilting. Win win situation.
When i am online I try to make it worthwhile, especially avoiding things that just aggravate like some threads here.

I also play the cello, Float On, and that is one of my to-do things--have it restrung and revisit the old instrument!
I did just go to the library and checked out the book Iris Lilies recommended, so I guess there is much cross pollination of offline/online activities.
It looks really good so far.
On to more decluttering of files, and other offline things!
