Just got out the hot water bottle. Our house is set at 65 but some spots are colder. Nothing is more comfortable than a nice hot water bottle (and sheepskin lined slippers) on the lap or next to the seat. Tonight it might migrate to the bottom of the bed. Bet the cats find the warm spot.

We love our hot water bottles too. Be careful if you live with an elder, though -- we have been using hot water bottles for years, but recently my mother (92) somehow got hers wedged against her hip at night and now has a painful burn a bit bigger than a quarter. It was very raw at first, but is healing now with attentive first aid.

Sorry to emit a negative comment -- I was just so surprised when the burn happened! I think older skin is just way more delicate.

and older people using heating pads for hours on end, I've seen some nasty burns.

I am trying very hard to convince everyone that 68 degrees 24/7 is not necessary since everyone sleeps under mounds of down and I would be happy to get everyone a hot water bottle. But this new-fangled programmable thermostat that came with the house has conquered everyone who has poured over the manual and tried to make a program. So I tried just pushing the down arrow to 65, I'd check it a few hours later and it always resets itself to 68. I hate that thing. It might be worth removing if it's not gonna save us any money.
