You all ready for this?

I didn't read your link because, well, I don't follow blind links that a poster doesn't make an effort to discuss. That said, and based solely upon the thread heading, I'd imagine the President wants to take rights away from groups of people without the benefit of due process. Are you in favor of that?

"recommendations will include measures to expand background checks."
"closing the so-called “gun show loophole”
Just a couple snippets there.
The trouble with creating new law or ignoring existing law by fiat is that it is so easily overturned by your successor's fiat. It becomes a matter or survival of the fiatest.

The topic of increased gun control comes up every time there's a mass shooting. The problem is that none of the mass shootings would have been impacted by the controls suggested, which leads me to wonder what the real goal might be. I think it's a toss-up between inspiring young statists to vote and stimulating the economy through gun/ammo sales. What do you think?
Edited to add: Just for the record I think it's the first, although the effect of sales is very real. I've been thinking for years that someday I'd like a semi-auto rifle along the AR lines. All the recent talk has me thinking now is a great time to pull that trigger.

I was once a young Statist myself. I think that might get a small portion of them out to vote, but not a massive tidal wave.
The economic stimulus idea is a cynical one. I think it does that, but I have no idea how purposeful this is.
I kind of just think that any opportunity to take away some rights will be taken by most of the politicians in this nation -- regardless whether they are Dem or Repub.
But I don't think any of these explain the whole story. It is probably a wide variety of reasons.

I personally like the AK47 for simplicity and reliability over the AR platform however, accessories are more readily available for the AR and of course the ammo is going to be found in everyone's basement soon. I wonder how many of these politicians that publicly tout gun control, have an "assault rifle" squirreled away somewhere ......just in case.
The AR-15 rifle has been the number-one selling rifle in America for years now. It's the Mr. Potatohead of guns, it can be configured in thousands of different ways for different purposes.
So good luck banning them at this point. Especially since you can make them with a cheap 3D printer these days, you don't even need the nice milling machine I have in my workshop here.

I live in a red state. It is very easy to get a concealed carry permit. The local sheriff is encouraging everyone to do so.
Personally, although I have never shot a gun I would not like to see an executive order. I don't like governing that way. There is a reason for three branches of the government. No matter how dysfunctional it seems.

I've also never had a desire to purchase a AR till now. The gun shops must love Obama, he has probably helped sell more guns than anyone in recent history. And I'm not even counting the ones he sends overseas or into Mexico.

Yes, I guess arms dealing with ISIS and terrorists all over the world does not disqualify you from claiming the high moral ground on domestic gun control and bypassing the Constitution and due process. Makes you wonder if the whole thing is not intended consequences. The one thing you'd like to achieve before leaving office is assisted by the proliferation of imported terrorism.
