View Full Version : Quesion about returning something through Amazon
I'm getting so frustrated with this. I ordered a replacement coffee filter through Amazon. They sent me the wrong size........and it took 2 weeks to get here! No problem on the wait, but it just won't fit.
So I clicked on how to do returns with Amazon. they said I needed to talk to the company that makes it, for a return. So I sent my problem, through amazon to the company. The guy sent an email back, saying to return it through ebay. But I can't find the company with this particular coffee filter on ebay. So I wrote to the company again saying "how do I do that??" and he wrote back saying "Just click on the 'contact seller' button. Is he confused? I can't find a "contact seller" button anywhere but on Amazon, next to my order.
Any suggestions?

no suggestions for getting this solved, but be sure to,leave feedback about your unsatisfying expetience.
Wondering if the guy also sells on eBay? Maybe another note reminding him that you bought it on Amazon?
I ran into something like that one time. Had to leave a scathing review on Amazon because the company basically would "not accept returns due to the customer ordering the wrong item". Course their stated uses for the item were exactly what I had ordered it for (something for DH's music recording equipment).

If you order only directly from Amazon instead of a proxy....doesn't it make returns a breeze. I've never had any issue with Amazon.

Exactly.
You have to look carefully when ordering from Amazon to make sure you aren't buying from one of the sketchy low-rent places that use Amazon as their front-end. Examine the "seller" and "fulfilled-by" information carefully, and look at the reviews of the seller if you have any concerns. For some of the electronics items I order, it is apparently quite common for the slightly-cheaper non-Amazon seller to ship you used goods, grey-market goods, counterfeit goods, or the wrong thing entirely.
Well, I got frustrated and decided to talk to Amazon. Sounds like it's fixed, but we'll see. The guy I had been emailing with from the company that sold it, finally realized that he kept saying "ebay" instead of "Amazon". No wonder I was so confused!

In the future, something to consider is to print a copy of that page to a file and save it as a pdf. In case it is mismarked, as sometimes things get corrected after it is ordered (had that with a add on for a jig).
Did my return through Amazon, but it wasn't an affiliate, so I don't know what their return policy is like. (amazon was easy though)
If you can find that page again, and it is mismarked, copy that page and another option is to contact your credit card company.
I've had nothing but good interactions with Amazon when there have been mistakes. I should have just gone through them to start with. But when I clicked on the "return" choice, I got an email from Amazon saying I needed to work it out with this other company........even though I bought it from Amazon. (sold by other company, but fulfilled by Amazon). Funny thing is, that company is no longer selling it on Amazon. Plus......it's probably from China, which is unfortunate, 'cause it comes in contact with something I drink. Dang it gets hard trying to make the best/safest choices.
I'm thinking that this time, the person manning the email at Amazon AND the person at the other company probably both directed me in the wrong direction.
Oh well.........I'm pretty lucky that I've had good luck with most of the stuff I've ordered online this holiday season. It's saved me from having really painful knees.
I did order a 4 cup Mr. Coffee simple switch coffeemaker from Kohls online and got it really cheap because I used 2 of their coupons. But.........when it got here, even DH and I together had a hard time opening the lid, and then I saw a big area on the floor of the water compartment where it looks like a hole had been patched........with who knows what. So it's going back to Kohls.
Hmmm.....well, I thought Amazon was taking care of things, but last evening I got an email from them essentially saying since it was a third party vendor, they won't have anything to do with the incorrect order. I'm waiting to hear from the vendor.......but I have a bad feeling about this. At least, it was an inexpensive thing. Live and Learn.
I think it's a double edged sword that Amazon is used by third party vendors. If I order through the biggest seller on earth, I expect to be covered through the biggest seller on earth, not to suddenly find out I have to negotiate with the prince of Nigeria. While it's nice to have so many options and competitive pricing, I don't think it's appropriate to lump things that are covered as they should be with things that come from back alleys and have to do due diligence on which is which.
Yeah, it can be a crapshoot when you order something that's only fulfilled by amazon. I actually had a great experience with an inexpensive piece of electronics I ordered from a third party seller on amazon. The item didn't work so they quickly sent me a new one and told me to just keep the non-functional one. Then SO took a look and figured out that it was user error and not a faulty product. I emailed them again and offered to return it and they said to just keep it, that the return shipping would cost almost as much as the product cost them to manufacture. About a year later I physically broke the first one and now use the second one I'd been saving as a backup.
