Star Wars!! It was Star Wars week at work and I wore my Han Solo costume to school. It looks like a pretty normal outfit without the holster. Then I participated in the trivia game today and almost won with my partner. The first question we both shouted 'mitichlorians' at the same time and no one else knew what we were talking about. I had to catch myself a couple times from going off on explaining the entire thing. I was pretty impressed with the head of our department who put together the game and did a lot of research (and had a few arguments with her husband but she was right in the end). We were 1600 points above the other teams and then my partner asked for a final jeopardy and bet it all, I went along and admit to being a little cocky at that point. The question was about the composer of the theme music, oh yeah, epic fail.

Now just to find a time to go see it so no spoilers.

I am driving myself crazy, I came up with the perfect Star Wars gift for my obsessed brother for under $10 that would look like a lot more. I didn't write it down and of course I promptly forgot it. Grrr. It was good, too.

I hope you have fun. The tickets are all sold out here already!

I would get your brother a bag of food that was decorated with Star Wars. I think there is candy and cereal and a bunch of other stuff with Star Wars on the package. He can eat the contents and save the package and it can be less than $10.

duct tape and foam pipe insulation, make some light sabers that you can beat on each other with! and they are soft enough to not get hurt. Just ask the professional,

I just read the Wikipedia notes for the Star Wars franchise. I was a senior in high school when the first movie was released ....I never went to see it, nor did I ever watch it after it was released in tape or CD. Nor have I since ever watched any of the prequels or sequels. So I don't know what that makes me but I know I won't be spoiling anyone's expectations by revealing details of the new release. I imagine the toy industry is going to get a boost as is Disney. I also just looked up the top ten highest grossing films of 1977. Star Wars was # 1. I actually have seen #2 thru #10.

DH has been filling my ears with Star Wars stuff all morning. The quick review I heard is that thus one is hood.

Zoe, 1600 pts ahead of your nearest competition is huge! Too bad you lost it all! Haha.

I have fond memories of Star Wars, I was in elementary school, grew up in a neighborhood of boys so I was always Princess Leia. Running around in my First Communion Dress with the side buns, fun stuff back then. I can't get into it now at all.

I think I was in 5th grade. I had no clue what we were in line to see. The old theater had several dark switchbacks on the halls into the theater, much like a maze, and I walked smack dab into darth vader. Liked to scared me to death! They had employees dressed up as the main characters.

I remember seeing the first one when I was in 4th grade. We went to the Cooper Theatre, a massive old wide screen theatre in Denver that no longer exists. http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/824 Was definitely a fun experience. I also saw the next two but have not seen any since. SO has been watching everything on netflix in preparation for the new one. I probably won't go, but I'm sure he'll have no problem finding someone to go with him.

I know there was hype when it came out. No idea, what area the first movie (Episode 4) came out it. I don't remember knowing anything about it, but do remember we were taken to a theater that we had never been to before (or since to the best of my memory), and saw either the first or second showing. Great as a kid, and I remember I was in middle school when ROTJ came out. I had read the book before the movie was released and probably was spoiling it for some, as the only thing I wanted to see was Darth demasked. Got a little older, and when I moved out and was given all my childhood toys, I looked at that stuff and said WTH do I want with this stuff, so I sold it. My siblings were freaked (I still don't get it).
When the next batch came around, I saw the remakes and was rather unimpressed (and preferred the original versions), and then the first and second of the newer ones. Jar Jar, COMPLETELY killed ANY interest in it for me.
A parent picked up at a damaged freight store (around that time), a high end replica light saber and put it under the tree with my name, and when I unwrapped it, I said WTH am I going to do with this, it better be real (and they stepped back). It got left there, otherwise it would have hit the trash.
Several people have been bugging me to go see it, and I do the dog tilt of the head and ask why?
I don't get it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Star Wars! We went yesterday to a matinee in 3D (water and quality dark chocolates in my purse of course)

OMG this one is good!!!! I saw the first one as a junior in HS.

I think this is a love or hate movie genre. It was awesome! If you've seen it, I hated the ending.....I did NOT know this is another trilogy!!! 524d till the next one!

I didn't know it was a trilogy either, if that's the case maybe I'll just wait till it's a box set so I can binge watch. I hate walking out of a theater knowing I have to go back for more.

Yes, 3 trilogies basically, an epic story. I haven't seen it yet and have almost avoided facebook and social media in general. The press did an amazing job of not giving any spoilers on this one, I might try to go today even though I have not found a movie buddy yet. I still haven't seen Spectre and I am a huge Bond fan.

It is kinda funny to me though that this used to be more of a geeky thing but now it has exploded. My daughter is painting a death star for her boyfriend, I showed the picture to some people at a party last night and only one person really knew Star Wars (of course everyone was impressed with her painting).

I'm not saying I don't care about the story, I don't care about a recitation of 'quels and filming sequence and where each film fits in.

DH enjoyed the new Star Wars a lot.

I think there is a clear difference between enjoying something and being a fan.

I also think that when you're a kid, being a fan of something is more tolerable than when you are an adult.

Just a thought...

I enjoy the music of a lot of different artists -- Van Halen, Donna Summer, Joni Mitchell, George Clinton, etc. Though I would not consider myself a "fan" of any of them, certainly not in the "fanboy" sense.

Though I have heard that the magical English kid -- those books -- are liberal, secular propaganda. Is that true? haha

That may be true. Hardly anyone works for a living, there's a massive sense of entitlement and the bureaucracy is way too powerful.

But when your nine year old relates all major life events to HP subplots, and hurls faux-latin curses at you when she's angry, it's hard not to wish JK Rowling was still sleeping in her car.

At least she's getting into the habit of reading for pleasure.

I thought I rocked this, my kids were liberal from the moment they could talk and I swear I did not push an agenda hard, they just knew my thoughts on social justice and things like that. In school they 'voted', they were one of about 50 kids in the school who voted for Obama and it's a big school. My son was forced to remove a peace sign necklace he got at some kids party's in kindergarten, first I was told it was inflammatory, however there's a peace sign painted in the cafeteria, when I scoffed at that, they said ok, it's because necklaces are dangerous on slides, as I looked at girl after girl, day by day all wearing cute little necklaces. When they brought DS in, he told them it means "everyone should get along". He had to take it off. By 4th grade, he self identified as a pacifist, gave the peace sign to his bus buddies (I was standing in the doorway), he was with his sister and even the bus driver said he gave the peace sign. Our neighbor, a young middle school teacher, was so sure it was a middle finger directed at him, he tailed the bus to school, beeping and swerving trying to get the bus driver to pull over, instead the bus driver thought this guy was a crazy threat and called the cops. I got called to school to be forced to admit that DS had given this teacher he had never met the finger so he could be properly punished. They had tons of higher ups and cops in the office, really pushing me. I called the ex and he said, "tell them fine but you are leaving and calling the paper to let them know what happens twice to a kid in elementary school who uses the peace sign," the only good idea that jerk ever had. Of course the last thing I wanted was it in the paper, but I said it and they backed right off and punished the teacher. These two things really stuck with my kids, especially since peace and anti-bullying were being taught, DS learned irony the hard way.

But when he turned 15, he created his own party based on Darwinism, the theory being don't help the weak (the poor, the hungry, the poor sick), let them naturally die out so the whole country is strong. I was so appalled, he even said if a young person got pneumonia and couldn't afford antibiotics, you let them die. At this, I got up, went outside of Moe's, called his father to come and get him because that was not my child in there. Went back in and said, "keep eating that burrito, do not talk." I may have called him Pol Pot on the way out, I'm not copping to it.

he's not like that anymore but for two years, it was all he talked about, I'm sure just to inflame me.

Didn't someone on here say duct tape is silver? yeah, that

From what I understand -- and I wish I remember where I read this -- college is actually a fairly effective way of turning conservative young people into liberals. So... more colleges please! haha

My mom is very liberal, though not in any intellectually sophisticated way.

My dad was a Democrat with a libertarian leaning until about 15 years ago when he started shifting to the right.

My sis is a conservative Democrat. She thinks the Democrat party is better for career women.

And, well... you know me. haha

So I felt like this was explained really well in a Big Bang episode. After years my parents got me to watch it. What they get out of it and what I get out of it are quite different however. There is a conversation where the 'normal' character says that she sees how passionate her geeky boyfriend is about everything and she is a little jealous that he cares so much about these things. I relate to that passion, I am sure sometimes it can be annoying or geeky but I really am naturally a passionate person, even if it is the fiber content of my socks (bamboo is awesome). So a great story is compelling, even if Star Wars is not as cool as it was in the first movies I am still excited and happy that other people are excited also. (I have probably posted that I deal with a fair amount of lonliness/ aloneness)

My parents have apparently learned nothing about Star Trek or Star Wars in watching Big Bang Theory, or even science, however we all like the same show so we finally have something in common!

The relationship between parents and children should teach us about how harmful it is to assume the correctness of anything to the detriment of that relationship. I learned the hard way. Passion is passion.

I am less and less concerned with demographics the older and more experienced I get. Take a man like Tony Bennett. Here's an 85 year old man who wears suit and tie and seeks out people like Lady Gaga or Amy Winehouse to sing duets with. He can look right past their differences and connect with their humanness. I want more of that.

I don't need to see the latest iteration of Star Wars because, in the end, The Force is nothing more than duct tape. There's a light side, a dark side and it holds the universe together.

As far as kids go I'm thrilled that mine are caring and compassionate and that they would never deny care or dignity to anyone based on cost. I am also thrilled that they are not afraid to ask how much something costs and how we are going to pay for it.

I loved the original first 3. But somehow, haven't caught interest in this batch. Is it following the original story line of Lucas? What I mean by that, is that supposedly he had the 9 already planned. Is this part of that? Or is it something different because I've heard it's really just a pablum feed for old fans.
