Today is my at-home EEG for 72 hrs. I am very grateful to be having it because it's been at least 6 months of insurance wrangling to get it. A woman came from 4 hrs away to hook me up to all these wires on my head and chest, in the middle of the hook up, Buddy got out somehow and he is a runner. I am in PJs, look like Medusa with all this stuff hanging from my head, I have my dad's shoes on (mine weren't by the door and when Buddy takes off you have to go after him immediately) and my first time driving since 9/14. I drive around, crying because he really does take off and I am never confident of getting him back even though he is chipped and has my address on him. I found him sitting in an empty Verizon truck, the guy had left the door open. he eludes me and is off. I drive along, can't see him and then I drive by the garbage man, he is on his lap in the truck. Guy helps me get him in my car, I cannot fathom what he thought when he saw me, something along the lines of Young Frankenstein crying in clown shoes.
I proceed with the EEG, she has to tell me the instructions 3 times, I keep forgetting what I'm supposed to do. She was so sweet until she told me I would be watched by a camera 24/7, what, no thanks! I concede since what choice do I have. Now I've had an at home 24 hr EEG, had no problems with the adhesive they used, I am allergic to some kinds of medical tape and adhesives. So I say nothing, assuming this will be the exact same thing. Well, it's not. She left hours ago and my head is so itchy it's on fire. She told me she is on her way home (4 hrs away) to get her house ready for her 9 siblings and their families staying with her because her mom is dying so they are all coming home. But I am supposed to call her if I have any problems. No way I will bug this woman after telling me that story. So I will itch and try not to detach anything until Christmas eve, when she returns.
this is not fun, I am an idiot for not asking about the adhesive, it's just been a long time since it was a problem.

Honey, call her and tell her about the allergy--or go to the ER, sounds like a latex allergy I have. Not sure you can get a good read if you have a big reaction like that, which can mess with your BP, but you know that, you are a nurse.
My pulmonary guy told me that one time he saw a surgeon touch someone's heart with a latex glove; watched the patient go into shock. The patient was unconscious, so it wasn't a mental thing.
Not something you want to mess with. Why not go to the ER, if you don't want to bug the nurse.

I ended up calling her just to ask if if would be ok to ask the neuro's office to remove and re-apply with the right stuff and she said, only her company can use the equipment but she had not left the area yet d/t paperwork so no big deal. I still felt bad but I was realizing I couldn't even take benadryl, if it made me sleepy, it would mess up the test. I don't ever get anaphylaxis from adhesive but you never know when something you are allergic to can turn into that. With my luck, having the stuff all over my head and no Benadryl, this would be the time. And I have had anaphylaxis twice with aspirin products, scary and something I do not want to do again. She's gonna get home so late but I feel so much better now. Some medical professionals are so good, she waited for me to get Buddy, she came back because I forgot an allergy, started all over and didn't act supremely irritated that someone would forget that, especially a nurse. I'm sure I'll be her "I had a crazy lady today," story over dinner, lol

So good you called her--not easy to do! I think you will get a more accurate reading, along with not endangering yourself any further.
My husband had been having an allergic reaction to beef and then DID have a big anaphylactic reaction (after 18 months of the milder reactions.) Not a pretty sight, so glad you did not just try to get by with the Benadryl!

Hey Freshstart, those good dinner stories aren't always easy to come by, so you repaid her kindness! :)

I have no words for the images of you chasing down your dog!
OP, good wishes to you in negotiating this,

I know there is a good country song in that story. Are you sure your dog didn't high jack that Verizon truck and somewhere in your neighborhood there's a Verizon service man duct taped and tied to a tree?

hahahaha, thanks for this
I had to look like an insane asylum escapee, I can't even imagine. My hair standing up and all the wires, the PJs, the shoes, the crying. The garbage man is getting a really good Christmas present!
I keep forgetting the camera, I talk to the dogs, give them hugs, oy vey. They're gonna come pick up this thing with a nice new jacket for me that zips up the back!
Bless your heart, freshstart! I'm assuming buddy is a dog? Your note was very humorous......although at the time it probably wasn't so funny for you. I'm glad you found Buddy and contacted the EEG lady and all's well that ends well!
Good luck with your EEG test, and I love your sense of humor. :)
Dogs are important -- I'm glad that Buddy is home with you safe and sound. My three dogs are runners, too, so I know exactly what you mean about not being sure you'll ever get them back!
And, I'm sorry you've had to endure such an ordeal with this EEG -- fingers crossed that the rest of the process will go smoothly.

it probably would've helped if i had mentioned Buddy was a dog and not a toddler or something, lol
I figured a toddler couldn't run that fast......and climb into those various trucks. haha
My dog is a runner too. I was thinking about putting up one of those invisible fences right in front of the door!
