He'll be missed. I always enjoyed watching him whatever he was in. He was one of those actors who could be depended on to take unremarkable roles and make them memorable.

Broke my heart. Will always think of him in Truly, Madly, Deeply.

I think he outshone everyone, including Kevin Costner, in the Roin Hood film.

I'm not a movie buff--I only saw him in the Harry Potter series, but I found him compelling even in that. He seems to have had great talent. I hate when worthy people leave us too soon.

Die Hard is one of my guilty pleasures.

I'll never forget what a good surprise a Die Hard film was for me. I was stuck out of town in an area with one movie theater that was showing the current Die Hard, probably the second one. I went to the movie, resigned t watch it because there was nothing else. Surprise! I liked it.

We have seen some of the others, depends on the review or how we feel. Some are pretty bad, but Bruce Willis is someone I love both personally and professionally.

I can't remember which one Rickman was in but he would be a bad guy with watching if that's what he played.

He was the chief bad guy. The one who asked Willis if he was a cowboy.

I loved him from the moment I first saw him in Robin Hood and was so sad to hear of his passing.

Yes, he was wonderful in that film.

I suspect he was so great in the Potter films because ir was reported here that Jk Rowling told him ( and asked him to keep the secret) that Snape was really a goody....

Love Alan Rickman.. one of the British greats. One of the acting greats in general, but you have to love the classically-trained actors who were able to find success in Hollywood also like Judi Dench and Helen Mirren, and my personal favorite, Ian Richardson. There's nothing like them here in the US. (and I have to be a theatre snob and a name dropper by mentioning that Alan Rickman was trained at RADA, and I actually had the wonderful good fortune of going there for my Junior Year Abroad program. The training was unbelievable, and as a result, I know how to speak and intonate, move, fence, perform unarmed combat, and mime. The only thing I couldn't learn was how to act--but not for the want of great teachers).

Our actors seem to be enjoying a real popularity at the mo... Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and others.

RADA is an amazing 'nursery' for many of our talented people.

Truly madly deeply was my favourite. When i first met my dh I asked him to go to this movie with me as I adored the film. He really didn't like it. I nearly called off the whole relationship. lol

i love it when British actors can come to the States, make a blockbuster every two years or so, and then have enough money to go off and do something more interesting and less commercial. That's what James McAvoy is doing.

Mark Rylance is all over the American awards at the moment, for TV and film.

i had no idea Idris Elba was British when he was in The Wire more than a decade ago. Same for his cohert in The Wire, Dominic West.

I loved the Damian Lewis in The Forsyte Saga and he's gone on to do a fab job in Homeland.

cumerbatch has been huge in the past couple of years.

I really do not like Eddie,Redmond but he was fine in the Stephen
hawking film.

these U.K. Actors are adding so much to our film and tv experience.

He was a favorite of mine, and Roger Rees as well, who died late last year.

I was fortunate enough to see Alan in a play and meet him afterwards, get a photo with him and an autograph. He could read the phone book and make my knees go weak.

First became a fan when I saw him in Truly, Madly, Deeply too. I swear I saw Les Liasons Dangereuse (sp?) as a filmed play on TV years ago (I've met Lindsay Duncan too; now I know what they mean when someone has skin like porcelain).

Oh gosh, my other fave actor is Derek Jacobi, who I've also met. Hope I'm not a curse!

I will miss him, his talent, and his INCREDIBLY sexy voice. Boo, Alan Rickman, why did you have to leave us so soon? :(

So this is one of the great benefits of participating on this site. I had never heard of the man. And seeing how many responses of genuine respect and appreciation for him...he must have been special and there must be a significant hole in my exposure to quality acting. I guess I need to pay more attention. Reviewing his filmography I am astounded at the body of work he put out. Well, thank you for that and for film where generations to come can discover his acting.

He was the primary bad guy in the FIRST one. She thought she saw the second one, which would have been the airport one.

Our actors seem to be enjoying a real popularity at the mo... Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and others.

RADA is an amazing 'nursery' for many of our talented people.

Eddie Redmayne is a fantastic actor. I originally saw him in a PBS adaptation of the book "Bird Song". He made me cry. The story is set in WWI. He is such a sensitive man and acts without saying a word. He and Cate Blanchett are my favorites. Although, Cate I think is from New Zealand.

Alan Rickman was perfect in the role of Snape in the Harry Potter Series. I never did see the last film but that Snape was such a complex character. I remember seeing him in Sense and Sensibility as well. British actors tend to be a lot better than American, IMHO. American actors tend to act the same over and over again. Think of Clint Eastwood or even Harrison Ford. They play the same part too often. British actors, get into the role and play it. I always thought Meryl Streep is overrated and does the same thing. She changes an accent here and there, but it's Streep doing Streep.

I thought Ms Blanchet was an Aussie, but I defer to your knowledge!

One of my absolute favourite actors for at least 30 years is the latest Dr Who,Peter Capaldi. I like that most of our actors/actresses get their parts on ability, not looks!

I've been a Dr. Who fan since the late 60's, and was thrilled a few years ago when my now 13 year old grandson became an avid fan as well. We've both recently, and reluctantly, decided that the current Doctor lacks some undefinable characteristic required for our continuing enjoyment. Maybe it's because we're traditionalists and Peter Capaldi gave up his sonic screwdriver for the sonic sunglasses.

Ive not been a bIg Streep fan until she did that Prairie Home Companion role and that seemed to switch her out of her usual thing, I was surprised that she was so relaxed and believable in it. She might have been the same way in the recent film where she played an aging rocker.

I'm not much of a Cate Blanchette fan either until lately, she is growing on me.

now thats interesting that you are a big fan of Redmayne. I thought he was a bit icky in Tess of the D'urebvilles, but then, Angel Claire is such an annoying character, maybe it was a good thing that he was in the role.

Ahhh, then we'll have to agree to disagree. He has been an avid Dr Who fan since he was a boy and was ecstatic to get offered the role!

Imhave quietly lusted after him since I saw him in Local Hero when I was very young!

The glasses are gone, as they were doing what typically happens to cheap sunglasses (breaking). If you saw the most recent season (all of it) then you understand why he went to "wearables", after he gave his screwdriver to the wrong person (and it made several impressions).
I must admit, I wasn't a fan of Capaldi and actually wished Missy would just kill the Doctor, last season. But at the end of this season, I understand he is playing him more as a cynical old, tired of life, man, rather then what we have been used to.

I think Capaldi has been better in his other two Doctor Who universe rolls, personally. Best part of him in the new who, has been with the guitar.
