I came across an interesting video today about one of our island chefs, it's pretty well done (though a bit Portlandia). It gives a good glimpse into the area I live, and features briefly the shellfish farm my daughter works at when she isn't decoding Coptic and Old English texts.

So I thought I'd share:

Nicely, the Portlandia-style chef is perfectly happy to sling my rescue squad a whole pile of non-fussy pizzas out the back onto his picnic table when we show up after a drill or event, so we love him.

That was a great video, and what a neat guy (must admit I was taken by him because he looks a bit like my son). Loved the shots of the island, and the food. Very inspiring!

I know you went to school in my neck of the woods, and we now have some great examples of local farm to table in the area, but I'm sure the atmosphere here in Central Jersey could not compare to what you've got out there. Here's an example of the latest one, in Hightstown: http://12farms.com

The Portlandia element only makes it better! (and it does make me recall one of my favorite episodes):

My daughter is also going to college in NJ, and was pleased to report the discovery of a really nice farmer's market just a few blocks off campus, and a sufficient year-round supply of good ingredients that next year she and her roommates will be going cooking for themselves and not taking the university's meal plan or joining one of the eating clubs. So New Jersey must be doing something right :-)

I love that particular Portlandia episode!
