Creating a goal ticker

I'm entertaining myself with a 'ticker' marking my weight loss progress. (see my signature). This site offers customizable images, and all sorts of goal tracking options - debt, savings, object count, countdown to a date - basically anything you might want to track.

To do this:

go to http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php and create a ticker
copy the code info it gives you after you finish.
Back here at SLN, Go to Settings (upper right). On left, find "signature".
Open your signature and paste, save.

To update your progress, click on your signature in any post and it will take you to the ticker website.

ETA: you can choose to display the ticker or not by clicking the "show signature" box at the bottom of posts you make.

Does the goal ticker show the runner getting skinnier as it makes progress toward the goal? And does it turn around and cry when you go backwards? That's the one I seem to be needing right now.

Looks fun but I couldn't get the image to show in my signature. Which type of the copy/paste text did you use, kib? And did you just paste it directly or use one of the buttons here?

I'm able to paste it as an image here, within the post, but couldn't see a way to do that within my signature.

You need to copy the bbCode, not the image. Once you've created / edited your ticker, if you scroll about halfway down you'll see this and then a box - you need to copy what's inside the bbCode box and paste it into your signature.

Also you need to check the "show signature" box when you create a post.

Testing - hmm - pasting the same thing in my signature vs within the post gives different results. I think it has to do with signature permissions. It has BB Signature Images as NO. Doesn't matter. I should be studying instead of fooling around with this.

It appears we had the ability to add bbcode images within signatures authorized for Administrators and Moderators, but not for regular members. I have now authorized regular members to do the same. The use of HTML code for all categories is still denied due to security considerations.

This new functionality may require currently logged in users to log out and then log back in to trigger the change in permissions.
