We had a fair amount of life insurance but when DH turned 66, the cost was ridiculously high. DH has an insurance agent he always uses and he found us a reasonable deal for a 10 year policy that won't increase in cost during that time. DH had his physical today. Our previous policy expires in 10 days. Well, today I found out that it's with AIG. DH didn't think about this, but it bothers me a lot to do business with them because of their involvement in the financial crisis. Should this not bother me?

is it harder to get insurance if your current policy expires? if so, I'd swallow it and use them for what I need, the same way they used us for what they "needed". Unless your DH can get a different provider to evaluate him in time. My family, my extended family all have had good luck with Amica, if that helps any.

Thanks freshstart. DH's insurance guy is seeing what else we can do.
Thanks again!

Check out buying treasury bonds as per Joe Dominguez' advice. Who is more reliable than the U.S. government? I have invested in municipal bonds which are actually obligations of the state government in which the city is located. I have had no trouble with repayments of interest or principal over many years. Most governments will prioritize payments of the debt in order to be able to protect their credit rating and borrow more money! Dave
