View Full Version : Vote on my blog name
It is a blog about mindfulness in education, advice on mindfulness practice, working with kids, updates on what else is happening and great stories about what I am doing. My hook is that I have 15 years in education, 30 years of meditation, training and practice in facilitating meditation groups and came to this practice through being a punk kid.
Here are my options so far (throw one in if you want)
Mindfulness with Minor Miscreants
Punk and Present, Awake in Denver
Punk Kid, in the present moment
Hmmm interesting names, but the Punk and Miscreants rather portray the idea that the kids are sort of bad kids. Maybe it is just me.
Can you tell us in a nutshell who your clients are, who the kids are etc.
you could use Punk if it was about you - Sort of Punk Into Peaceful Meditation or something like that.
I got some feedback so i am not thinking about using punk or miscreants. The definition we are using is ' Mindfulness is non-judgmental, present time, awareness.' My audience are mindfulness instructors, teachers/youth workers, and possibly parents interested in connecting mindfulness and work with youth ( mostly in education).
The words youth, education, present, facilitate, teach, sit, practice, are standing out to me. Hmmm,
I kind of like "pay attention" as it relates to your teaching background (ie what teachers often say) , and also is what mindfulness is about. :~)

oh I like that, hmm, I will keep working it that way
One of the introductions I include for older kids is talking about how we get told (especially kids) to pay attention. And then ask if anyone ever taught them the skills to pay attention.

That is a great lesson!
I think dropping the punk stuff is a good idea. No great ideas for a blog name...
This is reminding me of a speaker who said she got her life inspiration from the back of a raffle ticket: "You must be present to win."
I love the second one, but I know it probably wouldn't fly...

Well I like the 3rd one:
Punk Kid, in the present moment
You were a punk kid, only now in the present moment. But I don't think it works for what you are trying to do which seems to be maybe advertising of your services and speaking more to professionals in the field etc. - rather than a more personal informal topical blog for which "Punk Kid, in the present moment" would be a really good title.
People will search for "mindfulness" not sure they'd search for "pay attention". What about Mindful Awareness?
Like Float On, I'm thinking about how people will look for the blog.
Will they likely be looking for something about mindfulness? will they likely be looking for something about working with teens? will they likely be looking for something about self-care while working with teens?
no brilliant ideas for a blog name, and for sure you can add search engine terms to your posts that will lead all the various searchers to you. and of course there are lots of personal blog names too -- after all, Rotten Tomatoes used to be my go-to television review blog, and content isn't all that clear from its name.
Coincidentally, an Atlantic article on mindfulness education came up in my newsfeed today. For those who are interested:

Good overview article of what is happening all over the place. It is not entirely new but is booming in the schools, mental health supports, pain clinics, etc. I like that it is getting to those seriously impacted kids that we want to show we are giving equal opportunity to. They are not coming with a level playing field and this work gives them a chance to deal with what they have going on while still having space to make choices.
In our groups we say that we come to practice out of pain, there really isn't anyone who decides to sit on a cushion for extended silence because everything in their life is so great!

I like something shorter than what you've offered:
I think "Pay Attention" and "Awake In Denver" are cute and catchy. but neither really spells out mindfulness unless you use that in a subhead.
Or maybe "Mindful U." which would play up the mindfulness in education and also be a pun on the word "you"--si it's like Mindful You.
hmm, I am thinking about a start off like "on 30 years,.. Mindfulness with Youth". I want to spotlight experience in a boom of popularity. I love all the young teachers doing this, and I would have been run out of the classroom for trying this years ago, but I have always brought whatever level of mindfulness I could into my work.
Be Here - Wow! 30 years of mindfulness with minors.

Does anyone even recognize that Ram Dass saying any more?
I remember when it was everywhere.

You are very specific about using a word that invokes specific feelings and images...."Punk". It defines part of you. I think you should use it even though it might reduce your audience. The audience you do get might be more dedicated.
Something simple like "Mindful Punk". once they get there, you can expand the education theme.

Great ideas guys, I am meeting a friend to fine tune the name. Started to look at web hosting and domain name stuff, not too overwhelming actually. I want at least 5-10 blog posts written ahead of time plus my 'about me', photos! OMG I think I need some of those.
I am remembering to keep enjoying the writing and let the other stuff drop when I am writing so it starts and stays fun
