View Full Version : Licensing visit, and not bad at all!

I have had nightmares about (state child care) licensing coming. They came out with some serious strict rules this year and I had a little meltdown at one point because there was a huge impact on my programming. We made changes, some really affect our program time, but were ready. I had someone in our department come out and do a pre-inspection walk through.

So I got 7 dings, 3 were on facilities (she checked the temp of water where they wash their hands, the water faucet isn't working great, and they didn't have the current fire inspection on file). 3 were things I couldn't possibly know (the sink to wash apples has all sorts of rules, we will have to use the one in the cafeteria kitchen, lemon scented bleach is wrong, and the immunization records were not on the correct form). The only one I could have prevented was that a licensing sign was missing in a room we don't use, it is used by many people so someone probably just threw it away. I found a replacement and took care of that right away.

No dings on safety or supervision of kids! Or snack procedures, or programming. One our changes prevented a ding in that area. We even left for our walking field trip and she was fine with that since everything was in order.

Good for you! I remember inspection days. They are long and tedious in PA.

My sups think it was a great visit too, whew, And they are restructuring some committees which reduces my committee load by one. No complaints here on that.
