This may not exactly be minimalist, but I am tired of my Klaussner leather offwhite couch/chair and want something different. Real leather seems to be much higher cost these days since when I bought mine back in the early 90s. Is PU (polyurethane) fake leather a bad deal these days? I want some combination of this.

Actually what I really want are two armless adjustable chairs (futon chairs) with ottomans that can function also as a lounge or even bed.

This is not exactly what you asked for (it has arms, and it's a sofa) but it's modular and multi-functional:

Thanks Catherine. That one is neat looking too. I think the weak spot of the one I looked at is the pillow top. I'd imagine one good pull of the pillow top and the underlying seam is going to tear and won't be repairable.

WE have a chair that is fake leather and i paid 200.00 for it about 7 years ago. When I bought it I did not think it would last long but it is wearing great. A few times someone extremely obese has sat in it and each time I think that will be a goner but no it is holding up great.

why armless. I had an armless lounger and it was impossible to find anywhere to put my arms.

ha...I don't know why. I just want to try one but I realize that could happen. I have been using an armless chair at my computer and it does not bother me. That may not be the same as a couch.

That stuff, just looks to me like the base is the same box construction that you get with a pallet, just covered with fabric.

Here is a comparison of leather to PU: Leather vs. Polyurethane (http://www.diffen.com/difference/Leather_vs_Polyurethane)

One thing, I would stay away from bonded leather. Terrible stuff; it ages quickly and just disintegrates.
