I see Mrs. Clinton won the SC primary by a decisive margin. Does that make Bernie a mere protest candidate along the lines of the Debs 1912 campaign? Are class-based politics pretty much limited to well-heeled, predominately white states? Is revolution a luxury good?

I could see Bernie doing well in places like Minnesota or Colorado, but that wouldn't seem to be enough to keep him in serious contention.

Meanwhile, here in the most liberal, whitest county in the state of Washington, an excerpt from a letter to our local newspaper about the upcoming Democratic Party caucus:

"But while Democrats can vote in the state primary in May, the Democratic Committee of Washington State does not use its outcome for choosing delegates to its national convention in Philadelphia! If you are a Democrat, the ONLY way you can have your vote count on Orcas Island is to cast it at the caucus to be held at the public school on March 26.This is particularly unfortunate this year. Many Clinton supporters with whom I’ve spoken are literally afraid to caucus due to vehement and uncivil language that has been projected toward our candidate and ourselves.

So I understand the personal bravery it will take for you to join me and my compatriots at the caucus to vote for one of the most internationally-respected and qualified candidates America has ever known. Sincerely hope to see you there."

Yes, they are afraid to show up at the school to caucus because of those mean violent Bernie supporters... Mind you, the main voice for Bernie here is a lady who is an international peace activist, and the calmest nicest person you'd ever run across...

Talk about manufacturing a false narrative of victimization...

Probably.

Next, what will happen to the 34 senate seats up for bid, 24 of which are held by Republicans. Has the party picked on itself so much that it will swing the senate? So, all three branches of government are up for grabs, and the Republican party is looking at redefining itself.

Why?

Forget what Trumps policies are or aren't or maybe they don't even exist, forget his inconsistent statements over the years, forget his shady business deals, forget his offending orifice we call a mouth, forget his brash impossible to fulfill promises. Because there is no attacking Trump. His supporters know about all his shortcomings....you can dredge up more all you want, the simple fact is it would come down to who gets more of the vote out, and on the Republican side.....Trump will get more of the vote out and the type of debating Hillary will have to do head to head with him will simply wear her out. I don't think she has a clue yet what she would do in a debate with him. She has had a playbook on all the rest of the candidates for several years. She probably was such a piss poor Secretary of State because she has been practicing for President all these years. She might win.....but she does not want to deal with Trump. He is unpredictable and annoying.

Having enough hardcore support to win the nomination isn't necessarily sufficient to win the national contest. Mrs. Clinton seems to poll pretty well against Mr. Trump in a one-on-one contest. I don't see Trump's general obnoxiousness as all that threatening to her. Whatever her career to date may lack in actual achievement, it has to have thickened her skin to accusations and insults.

In a battle between unspeakable and despicable, I kind of like despicable's chances.

If she can take 11 hours straight in a Benghazi hearing, she can easily do a couple of hours in a Trump debate. I just hope that when he starts attacking her make-up and pantsuits she maintains the higher ground.

Well, I will agree it is hard to call a winner between a party that promises to provide everything for free but wants to take away the general publics arms and a party that wants to let the public have their arms but takes everything else away.

If Trump loses........is this the end of it or just the beginning?

They can agree that the KKK is a bad thing? Now there's a courageous stand.

I suppose if they got together on saying something positive about motherhood, they'd get grief from the pro-choice groups; or if they expressed their joint regard for apple pie, they'd be lectured about the obesity epidemic.

Rubio has lost his voice. Gov. Haley has to speak while he stands there and waves. Wait until Trump finds out about this. The Clintons seem to have problems with this also.

yes well it may not be courageous but isn't that the fault of the guy who made such a stand necessary, by being an openly racist candidate (not just this but all the stuff he's said about all kinds of people). I mean you act like an idiot @#$# and eventually everyone calls you on it, such a shocker, isn't it? It doesn't make you a good person just to call Trump on it, it merely makes you pointing out the obvious that unfortunately still needs to be pointed out. Trumps almost an innocent in some ways I think, an innocent narcissist, he will go through life doing all kind of damage to other human beings (like with his comments but with his life as well), but he doesn't see it because he fundamentally doesn't see other human beings as a full reality at all, there is a lack of guile there compared to those who do harm and know darn well what they are doing (Hillary for sure).

I've been as impressed with Hillary's confidence and speaking skills as I have with Donald's ability to play unfairly. If it comes to it, it will be an interesting match up. The primaries have gotten so much attention this year that most people have had a chance to hear what the candidates are about. People will either vote along party lines or have already made up their minds. I don't think the presidential debates will be nearly as crucial as the primaries.

I don't think I would totally rule out a strong third party candidate, like Bloomberg.

I keep hoping to wake from the nightmare.

Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska has published an "open letter to Trump supporters" saying that if it comes down to a choice between Trump and Clinton, conservatives should look for a third option.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/senator-sasse-wont-support-trump-or-hillary/article/2001318

I suspect that if things go badly tomorrow, we'll be seeing more of that sort of thing.

I could support a candidate who didn't entirely share my paleoconservative principles, but Trump seems perfectly happy to ignore, abrogate or dishonor pretty much all of them. If I'm to chose between being a conservative and being a Republican, I will look for a conservative option, however quixotic. I'm normally pretty jaded about this sort of thing, but even four years of Clinton sleaze and incompetence may be preferable to the ignominy of a Trump administration.

You know, me being the skeptic and all, I get the feeling like Sanders has never intended on seriously contending against Clinton. That he was purposefully drafted by the DNC to gin up voters for the Democratic Primary by bringing in the social democrats who were ambivalent about a Clinton nomination. Knowing they were going to have a turnout problem following up Obama with (yawn!) "It's My Turn". And knowing they needed to get young idealists involved. When Bernie didn't even show up in South Carolina and when he starts talking from the podium about how this has always just been about getting more people involved in the "revolution". Just who might be Clintons VP?

The VP will never be The Bern. It'll be some good-looking, charming white guy about 45 years old. Someone the Dems really respect as a moderate.

I am voting for The Bern, but not Billary.

I'd much rather have Trump.

Okay, so before last nights debate I was of the mind that I will vote for anyone the Republicans nominate in order to defeat Clinton. Last night, I found a quote by Trump that is absolutely unacceptable. He said, "The military will do what I say......." I can't do it. I can't pull the lever for that guy.
