I went through all of my pants today, I am about 10 lbs heavier for the size I have but that is covered up with a shirt and I'm working on that ten pounds. Anyway, I tend to wear LLBean's well done knit pants or LandsEnd Starfish even better knit pants. I have had the LL Bean ones for over ten years, wore them a ton and they are a size even lower than the one I'm struggling to get into. They are now faded and kind of thin. I prefer the LE ones, I should get rid of the LLBean ones and just wait for a LE sale and stock up.

But something is making me feel wasteful because there are probably 5 pairs and they are not totally ruined yet. However, I'm no fashionista (hence wearing these type of pants in the first place) but they are noticeably worn and don't fit. Tell me to dump them please, I have no idea why I am hung up on this.

Dump them. They'll be gone and you won't be agonizing over them anymore. You deserve better, new ones.

Send them to Goodwill and let someone else enjoy them.

...let someone else enjoy them.

I second Alan's opinion! :)

ok, I'm going for it, I'll be left with 4 pairs of pants but I will feel better buying in my correct size than running around in those worn out, tight pants

thank you!

Dump em to the thrift shop. Nothing more nagging that clothes that don't fit. You are where you are today. Tomorrow you might be skinnier, but maybe not. Don't let these clothes nag you.

I will be getting to my closet this week. Let's see how I do.

LE had the Starfish capri pants for summer for 40% off so now I will have 4 pairs of those and 4 pairs of long pants. And 40% off is the highest I've seen on their Starfish line. Score!

tomorrow dresses and shirts

For awhile I kept clothing in a few sizes - cause I was having babies and there was a whole decade of not knowing what my size would be in 6 months.

Once babies were all done, I learned to give things away when they didn't fit. I had gotten used to wearing things that "almost" fit during the decade of pregnancies. It's a mindset that works for that reason, but then needs to go away for good afterward. I think a lot of women struggle with that due to the rapid body changes with pregnancies.

Right thank you for getting me started. Took 36 items out of my clothes closet today. On the way to a thrift shop.

menopause changed my whole body shape, I went young, 36, I was not prepared for the battle to keep wt off in the stomach area. Plus, the months of bedrest and little activity since 9/14. I have got to get going on the recumbent bike, the only exercise I'm cleared for. But even then, it's like 10 mins 2-3xwk for a month, I don't think that's gonna help with wt loss! After trying on all those too small things today, I feel motivated to eat healthier

Dump 'em. Don't waste more time being uncomfortable while wearing them. Don't waste more soap, water, & electricity washing them.

Do it guilt-free!

bagged 'em up today and that felt great. We have a town near here that was decimated by a hurricane several years ago, people lost everything and it was a poor community to begin with. So everything is going there, they need so much it's overwhelming and many of these things are work appropriate . I kept going after pants, dressers done and 1/4 of closet.

keeping 1 size down for 1 year. I am on an antidepressant that causes carb cravings and I gained wt. Last time I came off this type of drug, I lost 30 lbs in 30 days and the insatiable appetite was gone. We're talking about coming off this drug, it helps some but the weight gain is killer, plus it's sedating. If still this heavy next Lenten season (I was doing the 40 items in 40 days Lenten act, but surpassed it), the one size down clothes will go.

I'm having trouble letting go of my old wardrobe. I'm wearing a number of things that are too big right now, though I'm planning to take several things to a consignment shop next week. Some are favorites, and a couple of coats are just expensive to replace.

I lost a large amount of weight several years ago, regained it, and have now lost it a second time. I've always had fat and thin clothes, but with extra exercise this time, the thin clothes never fit well. They are mostly now too big.

Seems like I'm having trouble convincing myself this weight loss is permanent.

Make sure you thank them for their service before you get rid of them.

I did, I bowed, thanked them and said, "it isn't you, it's me. Actually, it's you."

I should thank some of my pants, I found me in them in a picture with DD in 2nd grade. She's a junior! They don't owe me a penny.

Once I got down to 4 pairs of pants, I thought this is the perfect time for a capsule wardrobe if not working turns out to be much longer. But then I had so many shirts that are 10 lbs from fitting, that I kept them out because they are not old and I refuse to buy the next size up. But I can do capsule with pants and dresses, ordered the capris, I have no jeans, need 1 pair and 1 pair of dress pants and done. I'll have one dressy dress- the one for my brothers wedding, then a few causal ones that can be worn 3 seasons with cardigans I already have. I have no skirts but the dresses will do fine. And I'll have a plethora of tops when I lose 10. My shrink had mentioned I could start cutting the wt gaining pill by one pill, I did that and then I see him this week.

Did a another quarter of the closet this morning, another bag. After I finish the closet, I'm going to look at the one size down clothes because I am not keeping things over 10 yrs old anymore or things that are just plain ugly. I have a thing about poring through sales and clearance stuff and never spending more than $20 on an item. So if I bought it ten yrs ago, it was bought cheaply and has served it's time.

I am totally disgusted by the amt of stuff I have and just because I bought it inexpensively makes no difference. I had way more than any one person needs and I was wearing shirts I didn't even like, they were just cheap.

A few years ago I got brutal with my closet and got rid of 2/3 of my clothes. I had way too many work clothes and I only consult occasionally so did not need many. I had clothes that did not fit and way too many dress up clothes. Now everything that is there I wear and like and it feels a lot better.

8 garbage bags gone, ready to start on one size down but might wait til tomorrow. And I found a cardigan to wear at the wedding in the evening when it gets chilly so I can return the one I bought.

I don't know what's gotten into me but it's a good thing, this is the most I've accomplished since getting sick in 9/14, maybe I've turned a corner.

I picked four things for consignment and threw away a couple tonight.

My daughter was a toddler playing under the clothes rack while I was buying my current winter coat. She is now in college.

good job, Bronxboy!

in the end, I had 11 bags to donate, I had kept two sizes down and forgot. In the forage, I found my John Prine, Leonard Cohen and my most beloved tee, WWTWD? (Tom Waits). I had bought the last one at the Boston Bizarre Bazaar with my brother and DD when she was maybe 8. Her eyes were huge at the kind of crafts and people she saw there. She is a Junior and still carries her bag from there. Holding that shirt brought the memory of that day right back. I should write it down before it's forgotten again. I thought I had gotten rid of those tees, I'm so happy!

Happy post! Isn't it great to find much-loved things after they've been in hiding?

I have found that if I let go of my "skinny" clothes and dress for the body I have, even if it is bigger than I think it "should" be, I am actually more likely to buckle down and work off the weight. It seems counter-intuitive but that's my experience (lifetime yo-you here).

yup, I'm the same way. I can probably get 2 sizes down again if I come off the carb-craving med and just eat healthier but without incredibly hard work and exercise I'm not even cleared to do I am unlikely to get much lower than that in the coming year.

I've kept a dress that made me feel glamorous once (a 4p, keeping it totally for sentimental reasons) and a gorgeous silk long embroidered coat I wore when I eulogized my grandmother, oh and I have my wedding dress and a prom dress. IDK why I keep my wedding dress, I guess because I really liked it, I know DD won't wear it. I'll have a few things to show my grandchildren that I didn't always look like this, lol. My mother, who has every piece of tupperware from 1973 and box upon box of crap in her hoard, keeps trying to get rid of her teeny wedding dress that she had our baptismal gown made out of the train. The one sentimental thing I think is worth keeping and she's ready to trash that. She will never make sense to me!
