View Full Version : What do you do when you have a bad day?

I had a bad day today. Nothing catastrophic... just one of those train wrecks when Murphy's Law meets Murphy's Law all day long, work-wise. I'm exhausted form work. I'm frustrated with a clueless client. I'm unhappy with a presentation I gave. I'm tired and crabby in one way, but coming out of it in anticipation of my DGS-soon-to-be-2 coming over tonight.

Because they were coming over, I cleaned the bathrooms and my bedrooms, and to tell you the truth it was pretty therapeutic.

What do you do to shake off a bad day?

I try to work in the garden, if at all possible. If not, I try to get outside, at least. I am always happier outdoors, have been all my life.

But housecleaning can help, too. Anything to shift that negative stuck energy.

I try to go to my place that feeds me -- a local wildlife refuge with trails. It never fails. If I can't go there, I at least try to go outside and just wander.

Watching a movie or reading fiction takes me away.

I take a nap. If it's really a bad day, I take another.

Crochet, and a good cup of tea. Sometimes my fave tv shows on netflix. Sometimes I try for some simple tasks that make me feel accomplished like cleaning that I can finish in a reasonable time. If I am moderately settled then I do meditation.

What I have found does not work well is lots of junk food or stupid tv.

Lots of loud classic rock or heavy metal music and get up and dance and sing.

A nature walk in the daytime, but if it's at night after work, some time with a good book, or extra hugging time with DH and/or our cats.

PS: Sorry for your bad day. :(

Sitting with a cup of tea in my favourite chair, dog at side and counting my blessings. It may take a while to get going but once on track, it works out well.

Run, feet hitting ground is all I can think about so it clears everything. Ok if too whipped, I walk and walk till all is cleared.
Of Lately things seem a bit overwhelming, yesterday my feet hit the ground 27,855 times between walking and running.

This completely messed with my mental image of you Lessisbest. :)

First get through it.
Had one yesterday, with multiple equipment issues. By the time I got through it all, it was bedtime, so that made my decision for me.
Wish I had or had time for one particular thing, but life happens.

I used to walk and walk the dogs, not an option now. I try my all my life go to: reading, which has not been the same as it used to be but has the side benefit of now putting me into a nap. After bad stress, a nap always helps me see things more clearly, reduces anxiety and I can step away from the ledge.

I go grab the dog and go for a hike. I also like to mow the lawn (big one, by tractor). I find it very meditative but hubby isn't excited when I do paisley patterns in the outback. I also putter in the garden or throw on my headphones to something soothing and paint something to make somebody else happy.
The dog walk has a 100% effectiveness rate.

Y'all do such healthy things, so I'm embarrassed to admit that after a particularly bad day I will imbibe too many glasses of wine.

Oh well I eat too much sometimes. Bad day would depend on what type, but just stress I might eat a bunch of junk (fatty and comfort food or sugary to be sure). Though I have used the sleeping technique, for a full on depression coming on even, it doesn't always work, but it's good. It doesn't try to consciously change one's mind, it just straight out exchanges consciousness for unconscious processing, it's good, the unconscious is much wiser in dealing with all that anyway. What else would I do? Depends on what kind of bad day. If I felt like it I'd cry, read therapeutic stuff if I though the bad day was something I had to have hope of changing myself etc..

Well, I used to eat but now I'm on Weight Watchers so I just wallow in it.
