this is the stupidest pet item I've seen yet:

I suppose the argument could be made that the dog's paws can't take the elements but really, these???

they also have gingham doggie diapers with bows, because, you know, your dog is embarrassed by the plain ones

haha! Are you joking? That is ridiculous!

I had a friend who used to put doggie booties on her dog because she didn't like the way the dog's paw prints messed up the look of her Brazilian cherry floors.

But sandals???

I live in Florida. I can see these being very practical for dog walking on the hot asphalt.

I have two dogs, and hardwood floors. One of my dogs has "sweaty" feet and leaves paw prints and the other leaves none.

I did have boots for one dog to wear in the snow. She seemed to be more of a diva than these two current dogs and felt the cold much more. She tolerated the boots quite well.

I see the practical use as well. My dog has been in booties and walking on snow for months now (small dog, very cold climate) but now that it's melting there is sharp gravel everywhere and I worry his feet will be injured. Hopefully they will toughen up and all will be fine. But it's not the worst idea ever. Dealing with paw injuries, which can take forever to heal (how do you keep a dog off their foot indefinitely?) isn't my idea of a good time.

Not any different then a local guy that Jay Leno loves to talk about; Neuticle man. Don't know many dogs that seem to care.

I know we have posted about the Expense of Pets today. I am at the point of saying to myself "what happened?". Pets used to be take to the Vet for a spay and then every three years rabies, A bag a food and a box of milk bones. Love them. That was it. Now I have dogs at then Vet way to often, one on meds daily with rebate still comes to $1.49 a pill. Heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventative monthly. Oh then the supplements I give all 4 for joints and skin. Food is now a premium brand and treats well since I love them so much..... ;) Then dogpoopbages.com gets chunk of the money too. Teeth wipes for fresh breath, ha.

Back when Harlan was a pup he had to walk 5 miles to school every day, in the snow, uphill both ways!

People used to be relatively maintenance-free too. You saw the doctor when you were sick. Then marketing happened. I don't think we're much better for it.

Our elderly lab had booties for the last few months of his life. They looked like hospital socks. He had arthritis in his hip and the socks allowed him that extra grip on our pergo floors, so he could get up unassisted.

A bulldog in my neighborhood had neuticles.

I learned that in an amusing way: We held our annual party for our bulldog club and any neighbors who had bulldogs. The breeder of a neighbor's dog attended our picnic, as did the neighbor with his dog. The breeder had sold the dog on a neuter contract. She told my neighbor " dude, youve gotta get that dog neutered!" and my neighbor responded that the dog WAS neutered, he had neuticles.

My neighbor was a young pharmacist making lots of money.

The pavement gets so hot here in the summer that people with service dogs put boots on their dogs so their feet don't get burned. I bought some for my little ones when we would have snow and it took me 10 minutes each to put on a dog and about 10 seconds each for them to shake them off. They are princesses and won't walk in the snow:~).

You are so correct, but I suppose life expectancy has increased for both us and our furry, hairy friends.

I get the need for booties but the stylish sandals and gingham diapers just stuck me as funny

I do not understand why anyone would do neuticles but then again I am a woman

I guess I missed this one (me being a cat person), but do tell, what are neuticles?

I thnk their balls are kind of cute. My dog came into rescue "whole""and due to his health problems, i didnt want him going under anesthesia to be neutered. A year after he came here he develoed bladder stones, needed surgery, so we neutered him at that time.
i missed his funny ball sack for a while. I suppose he did, too.

Old TomDog must of missed his too. He grew two little fatty pockets on his side. We joke that he missed his ball so much he grew new ones but wasn't smart enough to figure out where they go.

This is what I love about dogs--you can make fun of them, and they don't mind. Every day we talk about Bozo aka Doofus aka Teddy Bear, treating him as our personal laugh factory. He is happy to oblige because any attention is good attention in his mind. He is also smarter than DH givs him credit for,but I am not revealing that.

One of my little Maltese had to have her long hair on her ears cut short due to an ear infection because the meds made her hair greasy and you could not wash it out. My son looked at her and laughed and she ran towards him growling-something she never does. She knew he was making fun of her.

Awwww.
Bulldogs like to joke around, though. Perhaps they arent as serious as terriers.I assume a
Maltese is a terrier of some kind.

Animals who live close to us have learned to read us very well, I suspect. They probably know more about us than we can guess.

Maltese aren't terriers. They have hair instead of fur and came from the island of Malta originally. They are tiny lap dogs that are very good natured, silly, playful, etc. They rarely growl. He felt really bad and started telling her he was sorry. It was pretty funny.

I had a mini-dachshund who was brain damaged and controlling his bladder was a problem. He had beautiful long, flowing locks but I got sick of bathing him everyday because he would get pee on himself and that wasn't good for his skin. So I gave him a "haircut", it was so bad and patchy and the more I tried to fix it, the worse he looked. He went and hid behind the Christmas tree and DD, 5, said, "you embarrassed him," and that's exactly how he acted, mortified to be seen like that.

I agree animals we are close to read us very well. My mother does not care for dogs and being sick does not want to be accosted for food, treats or to be let out when she is in the kitchen, something that happens anytime anyone is in the kitchen. She never had to say a word once we moved into this house, she just never makes eye contact with them and they know to go to her for nothing and they leave her totally alone.

I may be adopting a dog in the very near future (HOORAY!) and will be reusing my previous dog's things, if they fit. Probably will need a smaller crate, but some of her smaller toys should work. My dog had a waterproof Barbour-type coat and a winter coat which will most likely be too large, but those things I will buy again. It's nice not having a soaking wet dog to dry off after walking in the rain.

I will NOT look at all the cute doggie things found in Home Goods, as hard as that will be.

My mom and I may go check out this guy next weekend if he seems like a good match: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21003413 Recycling dogs and their gear is great!

He is handsome! Makes me wonder why he's still there. I emailed the rescue with lots of questions and info about us so if he's not a good match, they'll let me know. Oh, those whiskers!

Dog tends to be viscious, according to volunteer, so he has a lifetime home at the sanctuary. But mom and I are totally smitten with a 6lb. terrier mix, 11 yrs. old and quite spunky. Not shaking, shivering, buggy-eyed tiny dog at all. Zooming cars and running kids didn't even faze her, very sweet, sat for treats, and just perfectly proportioned for a tiny dog. So I'll try for her and if it doesn't work out, there's another out there that needs me more.

In the store, saw dog socks with rubber traction things on the bottom. They looked like Mary Janes, sneakers, argyle socks.....oh, please don't let me turn into one of those tiny dog people, who carry them everywhere and dress them in little outfits. OK, I'll knit it a sweater and it'll need a winter coat, but I draw the line there.

at least he won't be put down. I hope you get the other one, sounds like a cutie. I had a mini-dachshund and when DD was little she dressed him in doll baby clothes and when we walked, he got put in the doll stroller. He was very tolerant of this behavior and very cute.

I dress 2 of my 3 Maltese because they get cold even in the house which I keep at 68 for them. However, I have to confess that I have bought all 3 matching outfits and dresses just because they are so darn cute. WE went out of town and all 3 were in dresses in doggie car seats in the back seat so they will be safe in a crash and they can look out the window. So the windows are down and a woman at a stop light said "Are those your children?" I said after raising 3 boys and a stepson I think I deserve some girls. She laughed. We had a dog that weighed 18lbs and he got so he couldn't walk much so I bought a doggy stroller for him so he could go for a walk with all of us. Well we were on a military base visiting my stepson and he said "Don't do that on base-people will laugh at you." I said no they won't. I had one military person after another stop and ask what was wrong with the dog and they thought it was great he got to go too. Even people driving slowed down and asked about him.

I had thought about getting a cart to pull with my bike when my late dog was slowing down.

If I do get a tiny dog, I'm considering getting a basket for my bike so it can go for bike rides with me. And the clothes----they'll be horsewear styles, like mini horse blankets. That's the plan anyway. Well, I could always accessorize a bit too.

Have to give my application in person next weekend; dog I'm considering will be there. I'm still browsing Petfinder just in case it doesn't go through. So many tiny ones. I went to look at one in the next town and it was just adopted this weekend after a long time in the rescue. It had a deformed ear from a hematoma; gave him character.

Hope it goes well, meeting this little, guy. The small ones here go fast to a new home.
