Digging for Diamonds...that was fun

I live about 5 hours from Crater of Diamonds State Park in AR. It's been on my mom's list of things to do for 10 years and on my list for about 3. So we did it. We went digging. Perfect time of year to go. Light crowds a good mix of people just there to have fun and an experience (like us) and total fever types. It was more fun to meet people and listen to their diamond stories than the actual digging and sifting itself but for $8 a day per person it was frugal fun. We didn't find diamonds but did get to see a 1/2 c yellow diamond and several smaller white, yellow, and brown pt diamonds that some "new to the fever" people found while we were there. They caught the fever in November and have been coming for 14 days every month since. The drive there is beautiful down Scenic 7 and the Grand Canyon of the Ozarks and through the Ouachita Mountains. I'm so glad I got to take time to go do this with my parents, a great 5 day trip.

That is a place I would love to go to. My hope would be to eventually find three small stones so I could make/match a family ring I have (that I am afraid of screwing up), and that sounds like fun to me (and better odds the the "fun" several members of my family have at the riverboats or powerball, etc). I would probably go often if I were close, but as is, I think a one time bucket list sounds like a good idea. (I like being outside)
