View Full Version : How long will you live?

It makes a huge difference to family when you die. Early and it is tragic, late and it may be a relief depending on the needs involved. It also impacts how much you should save, spend and the importance of living simply.
I tried this and clicked it a couple of times getting different dates of dying about 5 years apart without changing the data.
Living until 95-100 years old. About what I had planned for financially so that part is OK.
How about you?

Before I take this quiz I am going to make my own prediction that it will say 72 years.

My "death clock" chimes out July 28, 2055. That would make me 103. Encouraging, haha! Perhaps a bit simplistic as they only ask for very basic information, but who knows. Nice to know I might have more than a billion seconds left to live!

ETA: The Grim Reaper does seem to be a bit capricious. As you said, I put the same information in and it comes out different every time: 98-103 I guess that proves that point that no one knows when the day of reckoning will be.

I never take those tests, but I'm estimating--using the highly scientific "average your parents' ages" test--about 87.

Oh damn.........I'm going to die on my son's birthday!! Crap! :help:

I also don't take the tests/quizzes/etc. But I can look at my family history and judge that I will probably make it to 90-100 or so. Mom and Dad both did and none of their kids has had any medical needs. We are all around 60+ already.

I apparently picked a really bad birthday, because I kept getting the same death date, and in spite of being a non-smoker with a "desirable" rated bmi under 25, I will not live to be as old as either of my parents are now - and my dad is an overweight heart patient!

I got 93. I did one a few years back where they asked a bunch of questions about your health habits, food, drink, etc and I got 88 on that one.

Geez, it says I am only going to make it to 79, guess I better start making the most of my time left!

Pretty funny - I'm going out at age 101 according to this. But in reality our family lives to mid to late 70s, and then it's lights out.

No, I think it's basically your birthday. Change the day or even the year a little and see what happens.

What?? It says 2028 (at least on October 31st which is cool) but that is only 62. My grandma is still going strong at 93. I think there was not enough data,

I just saw the comment on your birthday, i did get extra years when I was normal as compared to pessimistic, so maybe I am just going to take some wonderful Scorpio style risk and die at that age mountain hiking with a handsome guy 20years younger than me.

Hey, I added 12 years to my life just by being more optimistic!

heh, yea I suspect that's often misinterpreted, not that I know anything about that day death thing, but I think it's the FORECAST that is optimistic or pessimistic (ie your predicted death date can fall within a range and one is the optimistic and one the pessimistic end of that range).

Did I miss some part of the fill in the blanks? I was going to make it till 79. Non smoker, my BMI <20, Normal outlook, non smoker. Gosh I thought I would make it longer than that, I mean hubby filled in his spread sheets saying we were good till 80 ;)

I will go make the most of my day!

Be interested to see the code, as I wonder if it is just a random number generator.
First, we know that BMI, isn't an accurate testing method.
Secondly, if someone says they are pesimisstic, is the programer an optomist (sure no one will want to live around a pessmiist, so you will die sooner), or a pessimist? (going to be stuck with you until)
Third, what if one doesn't see the glass as half full, or half empty, but twice as much glass as needed?
Where are the statistics about other relatives and their deaths, handedness, environment (do you live close to Chernobyl), etc?

Zoe Girl

Yes all of the above!

I have heard that pessimistic can be good, we tend to worry and then prepare for every possible emergency. Sounds like a good plan in case of zombie apocalypse. Plus I worry about what I eat and eat healthier.

The BMI bugs me. I think I am okay, a little overweight. The weight that would be a normal weight BMI does not account for things like my chest size, still healthy and not super thin like the old days.

Why would not BMI matter? 20.1

Why would not BMI matter? 20.1

Because it doesn't take muscle mass into account, or necessarily reflect overall health.

Because it doesn't take muscle mass into account, or necessarily reflect overall health.

I have always weighed more than people with the same height and even pant size (top size is usually significantly different however). I credit that to starting running at 11-2 years old and building muscle. My calves were so big that knee socks were difficult. I don't remember having any other options for socks when I was a kid either? Maybe some sports socks but not much available. In any case I always give myself a 5lb credit for muscle mass and chest, possibly not accurate but I am in good health in many other ways.

Local police dept, went to use BMI for a bit. They were telling people they needed to lose x. There was one officer, whose job was repeatedly threatened and he finally had both the union and a lawyer make contact to get someone to use their brain.
He was qualified as Obese, due to height and weight, when he tests out at 3% body fat (no way for him to pass with BMI).

Yes I had mentioned I researched this and got the answer I was looking for. I still think I am pretty safe at 20.1 till this is tossed to the side. I like my scale number too and work hard at keeping it 121-123. I watch my diet and work out too much probably, don't drink or take anything.

But in the end it's all up to fate and genes I suppose or the magical How Long Will I Live page

The top 10 danger years for dying are 55-65. If you reach 65 without heart disease, cancer, etc then studies show that you will likely live to be quite old.
