View Full Version : Hearing Loss?
has anyone tried a solution for hearing loss that is frugal. Such as the hearing devices ordered online?
Husband is driving me nuts with his lack of hearing the last year or so.
thanks

I am sorry this is happening to you and your husband.
If possible, it is likely best to use the most modern medicine you can afford to treat his hearing loss.
Hearing loss, as you know, contributes to relationship problems. For the person losing their hearing it can even lead to feelings of isolation or real isolation because communication becomes much harder.
Costco has the best hearing aid prices and systems. I don't think you need to be a member but it is worth it if you do. Mom loves hers and they are Bluetooth enabled.
No advice on price or anything like that, but one thing I've noticed with friends and family members who use hearing aids is, the earlier on they got them, the better it seems to work. My DH's Mom didn't get hers until she was really quite deaf, and she never did as well with them as my Mom, who got them a lot sooner. (I realize that anecdotes do not equal evidence!)
My DH just got ListenClear hearing aids. He had had his ears tested at Costco and tried their hearing aids briefly. The Costco hearing aids were very reasonable compared to others, but the ListenClear were even cheaper ($1800 for both).
I encouraged him to go back to Costco and make a decision based on how well they performed, not price, but the ListenClear customer service people were very good and talked him into keeping them. I'm still not convinced they're as good as Costco, but he likes them. Definitely makes a WORLD of difference. (I've gotten so used to shouting at him, now when he wears the aids, he's always telling me to quiet down).

Truer words were never spoken! Do you have experience with this, UA?
I'm glad I'm a loner - since my hearing loss I have little desire to communicate verbally with ANYONE. It's hard, it's painful, it just sucks.
Unfortunately, hearing aids won't help me (and lots of other people.) Faking it, lip reading - it's exhausting. Along with the tinnitus, feedback loop, and balance issues - ugh.
I miss music so much.
I just try to forget about it and focus on the parts of my life that work.
