View Full Version : Speaking of Hearing Loss on The Other Thread Reminded Me Of My Tinnitus
I think I finally have to admit that I have had tinnitus for quite awhile but I usually ignore it for the most part. It really only bothers me when I am trying to go to sleep. Last night was particularly bad, the roaring and ringing in my head was quite annoying. I have never even had the gumption to look it up or even talk to my doctor about it. Having it is pretty much all my fault, starting from going to loud concerts as a teenager (I remember seeing Queen at Cobo Arena and being in the front row, literally in front of those giant Marshall Speaker stacks. My ears rang for a full week after that). Fast forward several decades of seeing live bands , singing on stage with loud guitarists. I did get my hearing checked once - I do have some hearing loss but not enough to do anything about it yet, I guess.
I would really like to get my ears to shut up though! What is your experience with this syndrome? Is there any hope/cure?
I have it also. It was dismissed by my new primary care MD as nothing he could do anything about. To be fair, he also didn't order any further tests for anything because (waving the blood test results in the air) these things tell him everything he needs to know.

Some people with hearing loss find that hearing aids help with tinnitus.
But for the most part, no, there is nothing to be done. No one really even knows what tinnitus is, much less how to treat it. My doctors say ignoring it is the best strategy.
Some people with tinnitus find sound generators (white noise or pink noise) help them sleep. There are a bunch of YouTubes and Amazon MP3 (free downloads) with tinnitus masking sounds that you can try.
I've had it for years. Now it's mostly pulsatile tinnitus that's always there. I can take my pulse by just listening to that! When I was first very sick (perimenopause? post viral syndrome? fibromyalgia? Epstein barr?) I had it alot. It was horrible.
I saw a tinnitus expert. He said, like Gardenarian said, that sometimes it indicates a hearing loss and you might benefit from a hearing aid.
I wonder if anyone has tried that supplement for tinnitus? - I believe it's Lipo-Falvonoid Plus.
Like a lot of things, seems like the longer you have it, the more you can learn to ignore it. I know though, it's pretty hard!
Aspirin is the culprit for some tinnitus, so if you take large doses of aspirin, I would cut back and see if that helps. I have trouble with it also and especially at bed time. I really didn't have a lot of loud noise exposure, so I think some of it is age. It doesn't bother me as much now that I use cpap. I think that little bit of constant noise helps. I do miss listening to the rain in the middle of the night, as the cpap blocks that too. A white noise machine might work too.

I have tried all the supplements and even homeopathic remedies. A complete waste of money for me.
