View Full Version : And Then There Was One

Kasich is out. Trump is the man. My last prediction was that the Donald would be finished by Super Tuesday. I obviously and significantly underestimated something in the Republican voter rolls, but I'll be dipped if I can tell you what it is even today. I get that people are fed up with the status quo, I am too, but really? I just never thought it was possible for the media to push a train this far. Silly me. Canada is too cold and probably not taking any more applications by now anyway. Maybe a nice Caribbean destination...

It ain't going to get that bad. It'll be like four years of silliness and economic ups and downs (mostly downs, and maybe a big down or two).

But we'll weather the storm and go back into our regular dystopian programming. haha

Yea, I don't think it will be the end of the USA (that's still a few generations off). The GOP, OTOH, may not fare as well.

Paul Ryan will be president by 2024 no matter what. So the GOP will be fine.

People, especially on the left, seem to enjoy predicting the end of the Republican Party or Conservatism (not necessarily the same thing). It's one of those Doomsdays that's required a lot of rescheduling. The remainder tables are full of books with titles like "The Death of Conservatism".

I'm an optimist. If Trump triggers a GOP schism into a European style ethno-nationalist party and a more traditional conservative party (I like the sound of the "Classical Liberal Party"), Conservatism will fight on.

Right-wingers will always be here among us.

May it always be so.

For those of you with conservative Republican leanings, keep your eye on Ben Sasse.
I worked with him once and he has the "right stuff" if he ever decides to.
I believe he is currently a Senator.

I've been watching him for a while now. He's an up-and-comer!

Don't give them any ideas!

This is the strangest election I have ever seen. I guess I have to understand this guy might become our next President. He strikes me as unfit in every way for public office. I truly don't think he has a clue how government works or the difference between .gov and .com. This guy seems to not have a compassionate bone in his body. He never talks about a domestic policy, jobs, balancing budgets, taxes in a way that relates to basic understanding of what everyday folks cope with. I mean has this guy ever sat in a traffic jam on his Tuesday morning commute? Unless you roll around with folks, how can you connect?

I don't even think he understands basic Bill of Rights. Every time I hear him, he turns me off with his lack of depth on so many topics. The way he talks about women is scary. I am with Gregg, where can I go? Is Costa Rica a possibility? I went to Toronto recently and it's just too cold up there. I am afraid that the fighting that breaks out at his rallies will become a way of life in cities and towns. I don't know what the people are fighting about but I am non violent by nature and cannot imagine life with him in office. He seems to brush off the responsibility of leadership and blame everything on everyone else. Can you see that guy offering support after a natural disaster? Does he know the President signs all notices of lost military to the family?

What is going to happen to this great nation?

He was an early and well-spoken "Never Trump" guy.

He won't win no matter who he runs against.

What's worse, a candidate who doesn't feign compassion or one who does?

A candidate who doesn't understand the Bill of Rights or one who wants to edit it?

I think the greatness of America will be demonstrated through our ability to survive mistakes like Trump or Clinton and endure.
