General computer question

I'm not real computer savvy, so maybe you can point me in the right direction.
Ever since I looked at Burpee Seed Co., they have been showing up on every danged page I'm on anywhere else.
I'm thinking they put a cookie on my computer, right? Can I block that cookie? How do I do that?

Cathy, I installed Ad Block plus on my laptop and phone. It blocks ads on all (or at least most) sites. You might try downloading it and see the difference.

However, once you install it...occasionally you might want a site to open a new page. And the ad blocker might prevent the opening. At that time, you only pause the blocker on that page and then resume what you were doing to open the new page.

One item not yet discussed: the cookie may not have come from Burpee, so don't blame them (necessarily) for spreading around word of your Web visit. There is a booming business in a largely-dark world of Internet advertising in which ad space is bought and sold almost blindly.

There are many ways to block this kind of capture. Rose and Birdie mentioned a few. Another option is to ... well, opt out. Here's (https://www.worldprivacyforum.org/2015/08/consumer-tips-top-ten-opt-outs/) a good start.
