Have you guys seen United Shades of America with W. Kanau Bell? It's great. He's a comedian who explores American culture. Tonights episode was on people who live off the grid. He's a cross between Charles Kuralt Chris Rock and Louis C.K.

I saw his show when he went to San Quentin, and a bit of the show where he interviews a Klansman who is dressed in full Klan regalia. He's great.

Oh, it's a CNN show.

But I did find it on YouTube. Here's the link to the Off the Grid episode, and it looks like all the others are available.

I actually found it on youtube also, although I think I found a bootleg copy. And not high def. But I watched it.

Interesting show. Since I've been interested in alternatives to regular housing (and watching videos, reading books, etc on this topic, not to mention watching tiny house nation and tiny househunters) none of what was presented was as shocking to me as it appeared to be to Kamau. The Farm seemed to be the least off grid, but also the most appealing to me. PRobably because there were other people around. I just don't see myself living miles and miles and miles off in the back woods somewhere. I've lived my entire life in dense urban environments, and while I don't need to remain in a tightly packed city like NYC or San Francisco, as I've done for the past 26 years, I don't want to live somewhere that my nearest neighbor is 3 miles away either.

I've only seen the one where he met with the KKK. And I saw an ad today for a different episode where he goes to Portland to heckle hipsters about their uniqueness when they're all dressed the same, and he said that the word hipster was Portland's "n-bomb". Hipsters being offended at being called hipsters cracks me up. As someone who lives between Seattle and Portland, he really nailed it.

I love it! I have to look for that one!!
