In another thread I mentioned an ad from the '70s that I still remember. (this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA4DR4vEgrs) After that post I got to thinking about the power of advertising. WHo knows whether anyone was inspired to buy perfume out of the belief that they could "have it all", but perfume ads can't work on our "rational brains" the way pharmaceutical ads do. They have to use emotion. So I got to thinking, what would a perfume ad look like if it were written the way pharma ads are. Perhaps something like this:

Montage: of slightly older than middle aged woman, first dressed in a Hilary Clinton pantsuit walking out of an office board room, holding a leather folio, having a professional conversation with someone, then shift to her sensibly dressed but in attractive casual clothes standing at a stove laughing while cooking bacon.

Voiceover on top of the montage: If you would like to be able to bring home the bacon, and also cook the bacon, AND remind your husband that he's a man, you should try Enjoli, the eight hour perfume. Enjoli has been proven to be effective at improving productivity at the office, cooking skills, and other skills that are important for feeling fully womanized.

Montage: shifts to the same woman, now dressed in a slightly more revealing outfit, lounging on a couch with a late 50's-ish man, fireplace in the background, both of them holding glasses of wine, laughing, looking at each other. The woman chastely caresses the man's arm.

Second voiceover, lower volume, rapid pace: Some side effects of enjoli may include exhaustion, frustration at the gender wage gap, anger at the societal expectation that women should do the majority of household chores and work outside the home, annoyed looks from people in elevators with perfume sensitivities and divorce. Less frequent, but serious side effects included pregnancy and STIs. Stop using enjoli and see your doctor if you have either of these conditions.

I would be thinking like typical pharma ads, it would start off with, Are you concerned about Body oder? Does that cause you self confidence concerns, then you might be right for....

True. And I probably need to end with the lady talking to the camera. "If you like to work, cook, and inspire your man to act on his manly desires, you should try Enjoli, the 8 hour perfume."

Yes, and with a seductive smile , she could toss a vibrating personal satisfaction device in the trash at the end.
